Here's my point....NONE of us KNOWS that we've got all the answers. Nobody on here or in the world knows without a doubt that we're the ones who are "chosen" or "saved"...So why is it that we have the inscent desire to try and prove others wrong, and moreover that we refuse to listen to what other people have to say?

My favorite quote regarding this is:

"A mind is like a parachute; it only works when it's open."

Pretty much, if you don't listen to what other people say, why even bother asking questions?

I had a friend once who was like that. He kept asking questions over and over again until we answered him the way he wanted it to be answered. He refused to listen to any advice that pointed him in another direction.

Religion and what you are taught growing up plays a big part in why people are not open to seeing the ideas of what does "God" and life truly mean. When you spend every sunday for years being fed the stories of the bible and Jesus as the one and only true way it is hard to give things a fresh look without the past clouding it. Most pastors are very well spoken people and if they stand before you week after week telling you that only through Jesus Christ can you be saved and that all other roads lead to damnation it is not easy to disregard this and open your mind to any other view than the one that was forced upon you. You are also taught to try and explain this to any no believer so as to help them reach salvation so listening with an open mind becomes nearly impossible. Always remember the bible is true because the bible says it is true.

It is human instinct to feel this way. Everyone tries to be the best and all think the way they think is the only way to think. You have to rise above that witch it sounds like you have and open your mind to others opinions. That is all religion is, is opinion there are no facts in religion. Nobody has any clue how we got here or what happens to us when we die, nobody knows and nobody will ever know. Why do we try and find out than, because it is human nature and when you think of something all of a sudden it is right and everyone else is wrong. Instead of teaching our kids about god and religion we should teach them that nothing is absolutely right about this world and to always keep an open mind. The main problem in this world is that people have to be right and have to prove people wrong I don't know why but they do I think that is another unanswerable question.

Humans cannot live life with huge perceived inconsistencies, the important word here is perceived. So it is emotionally far more stable to believe confidently in a myth than to live in a state of confused "open mindedness", it is IMPOSSIBLE to be open minded about EVERYTHING.

Take the question of race for example, would you entertain the idea that genocide is a good practice in order to enhance human kind by wiping out inferior humans?

Most probably you would have a strong negative reaction to the words genocide, inferior and even race. Does that make you a bigot for not taking a neutral stance?

Humanism develops slowly, and when there is sufficient contact and mixing between different peoples and cultures. The moral zeitgeist slowly progresses dispite of ideologies, it's only AFTER people see the consequences of there actions and experience the normal human empathetic emotions, that behavior changes and eventually logic and ideology is used to justify it, not the other way round.

Why is it that when someone has an opinion on something, people call them closed minded? Why can't someone weigh the evidence and make a personal decision? This is what I have done. I can't change anyone else's mind about things. However, if they ask my opinion, I can answer that.

that is so true. the ones with an open mind is open to all opinions, the ones who shut their mind are determined they are right even if their wrong. that sounds like my mom there was no way of convincing her of anything, it was her way or the highway...Thank God He has opened my mind, I have not all the answers for everything and actually I wouldn't want to be one who has all, each day I am learning something new as well as something old with a new meaning from the Bible and from others.

I do know without a doubt that I am saved. But i dont have all the answers and I dont judge anyone that is not my place. I worry about myself because what I think is a sin does not matter it is only what God thinks!

Look at the questions. MOST people in here just toss a grenade and leave (i.e. "Hey you stupid Christians, do you know how dumb you all are.)

We all see it every minute. That's not an exchange of ideas, it's trolling. To be fair, most of the people that do that in here would never act like that in a face-to-face conversation - out of cowardice.

I don't have all the answers and you are right no one but God has all the answers. I do know that I am saved and I am going to heaven. I do know that the Holy Spirit guides me and teaches me all things. I know my Heavenly Father and I know He watches over me. I know His presence and I know His voice.

I refuse to accept what the people who do not believe in Jesus Christ say. I know my Lord lives and He lives inside of me. I don't refuse to think. My mind is closed to any other god other than Jesus Christ. I refuse to open my mind to sin, the occult, evil or things that are not of Christ. You can't change me. I belong to Jesus.
