It's not RELIGIOUS people hiding behind the bible, it's IGNORANT BIGOTS who hide. They don't have the brains or guts to have and voice their own opinions, so they mis-use and mis-quote religion to spread their hate and ignorance.
I don't believe in god or religion; but I don't believe a true Christian would do what those bigots do.

For some people, it seems, an obsession with the Bible is a way of avoiding real life. The ones who fascinate me are the ones who spend the entire day every day frantically reading the Bible, underlining passages, desperately trying to make sense of it all (note that Jesus apparently never referred to Old Testament text in His sermons or expected His followers to be Bible experts), and becoming panic-stricken when passages seem to contradict each other (I know, Hank Hanegraaff insists there is no conflict, that context is everything--and yet somehow it's OK to apply passages out of context).

I would have to think that someone who doesn't believe what God says is not a Christian. Now, if you are a Christian that doesn't believe what the bible says on homosexuality, that is something quite different. What it boils down to is the way hat th bible is interpreted. some people interpret it one way, and others interpret it another way. I would say that both people are 'hiding' behind the bible (your words)

I agree.
If you're talking about the god that Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and Jimmy Swaggert (bible thumpers) push, the hateful, angry white man in the sky who's ready to bop you on the head if you even have a gay thought, then no... I don't believe in that stupid little god either.
They try to scare people into believing in God (and sending them money) and that's just bs.
But if you're talking about the God that Jesus came to show us, the one who loves people and never gives up on people: that's the God I know and believe in.
The bible thumpers hide behind the bible because they really don't believe in God on any deep level. They just use the bible to scare people into sending them money.

Because they have no logical reason to back up their own misconstrued beliefs. And also the fact that they do not actually make the effort to read the Bible thoroughly, understand the meanings conveyed in it. They go by what someone else's viewpoint is, and taking it as the final word, try to justify their own ignorance of the book.

Okay, um... what's your question??
And why would u ask for God to strike you dead?
I guess religious people hide behind bibles because their windows would shatter when they throw the first stone.

Because they get a false sense of security from it. It has always been amusing to me that according to the Christian bible, God said "thou shall not judge". Yet most Christians judge people all the time.

I think many Christian's see the Bible as their only 'defense' - I think it takes a personal walk with God, reading the Bible, praying and discussing ideas with fellow Christians to get a clear picture of God's path for you.

I believe that it depends on the way you decide to celebrate your belief. I personally don't "Hide behind the Bible" I read it and then live my faith. I think that sometimes it's their way of evangelizing. Have a blessed day.

They don't hide behind the bible but it is the bible that creates them. When an argument is supported by a biblical passage or so, that's the end of it.
