What was the Apostle Paul talking about?

2007-07-16 16:50:33 · 30 answers · asked by Anonymous in Religion & Spirituality

Most people can relate: you see somone and you greet them saying, "hey how are you?", and they say "I'm good", or vise versa and you are the one saying "I'm good". But what happens when you are doing bad... you still say "I'm good".

How did this become so standard, and do you think its annoying, funny, a "who cares" kind of thing, or etc..?

This was a response to a previous question of mine... "A human being has a soul---therefore more value than anything on this planet. To end a human's life is one of the most terrible things anyone can do. To end an animal's life is, well, ending the life of an animal."
I find this to be disturbing in more ways than one, I hold all life at equal value.. I dont believe we humans are more valuable than other life on this planet. Dont you think its a dangerous world view(or religion) that places humanity above all else? I mean if we are worth more than anything else who cares if you kill every other living thing on this planet.. it's just an animal right? But aren't we ALL animals? We are all born, we all live and we all die... we all came about on this planet together who are you to say that human life is more valuable?? This is yet another reason I shy from religion, its so egocentric...

all the time...IE: every night....

talking to this person is like talking to a brick wall..i've told them often..please don't ring our buzzer..i don't know you therefore i will not let you into the building..they are ringing our buzzer around 1 or 2 in the morning.

I've asked the neighbor who the guest goes to also..to make sure her guests are ringing the right buzzer..obviously that hasn't worked.

can the police be called? the property manager hasn't done a thing about it either..even though she's been told.

I believe in God and Jesus and all the tales of Jesus but I also believe in evolution and not in Adam and Eve. Is there a religion that falls under this criteria?

The broad consensus of research shows that people with higher IQs tend to be less religious!

Argument

Is it more logical to be a Christian? Is religion the natural choice of a smart person familiar with more of the evidence? Not according to a broad consensus of studies on IQ and religiosity. These studies have consistently found that the lower the IQ score, the more likely a person is to be religious.
The studies go here.......
.......CONCLUSION: The consensus here is clear: more intelligent people tend not to believe in religion. And this observation is given added force when you consider that the above studies span a broad range of time, subjects and methodologies, and yet arrive at the same conclusion.

Lately there has been a war in our home over religion of all things....it didnt matter to me or my hubby that we were different denominations when we gotg married but now we have a 12 week old son and it seems to matter more then ever to us both now...i go to church 3 times a week and my hubby goes to mass on Christmas....(ok, i'm getting of point here...)
anyway...i feel like it's the childs decision to give his life to Jesus when he's old enough to understand....and my hubby feels like we need to have him baptized asap...I guess i can bend a little, after all he loves our son and wants to feel he is protected etc....if we have him baptized in a catholic church does this mean he's catholic....

My church baptises by full body immersion, Jesus was baptised by full body immersion- the word baptism itself comes from the greek "to dip or immerse". So why do some christian churches baptise by other methods? sprinkling etc.... isn't this going against what Christ taught?

This is a link to a youtube audio clip of a radio conversation between Kent Hovind and a molecular biologist. Kent is asked to give an example of what applications can come from creationism and how they can benefit humanity.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnb_pmRDpqU

It leads to a profound question; how can religious doctrine benefit humanity? Kent couldn’t answer it because I think he knew religion can’t but he didn’t want to say it because religion is his livelihood (or will be when he gets out of jail).

Did I once again get several thumbs down for suggesting someone love and respect someone else? Is that the "new" religion - do unto others the opposite of what you wish done to you?

What exactly is wrong with loving and respecting others, especially family members? Isn't that what jesus said on a number of occasions? So why is it bad if he suggested it?

All I hear about on here is sin and how strong the devil is and how he tricks you or makes you weak. I must not have this problem since I believe in neither god nor a devil. I have never been arrested, clean criminal and driving history, never struck anyone in anger, never cheated in any relationship, give time and money to the community, donate to world relief efforts(even Christian if they are an effective organization), don't drink, don't do drugs, maintain a registered wildlife habitat and care for animals, don't kill anything (spiders go outside), love my wife, love my son, personally care for my parents health, and YET I am told I am hellbound simply because I don't believe. Boggles the mind.

In 1963, Thich Quang Duc, a Buddhist monk from Viet Nam set himself on fire to protest the violence and religious oppression of his own country. He sat in the middle of the street, doused himself with gasoline, and lit it. He then sat quietly and calmly until the flames consumed his body and killed him.

How does your faith compare?

For those of you who are not Buddhists (I'm sure there are at least one or two non-Buddhists in here tonight), how do you feel about Duc's display of faith? How does it make you feel about your own?

Thanks in advance for thoughtful answers.
