I am one, so I know a lot!! It depends on what you want to know. Feel free to email me with any questions you have! I don't mind answering them! Trust me, it's best to get your info straight from the source then hearing it from someone who doesn't live it, or is no longer living it for whatever reason. I'm sure you would agree that you don't go to a catholic to learn about protestants. Same goes for us!

I think we are tolerant, hard working, family oriented people that just want people to leave us alone about what we believe. Sure, ask questions so you can learn, but be nice about it!

Here's a website that answers most of the questions about what people have heard about us. It's very well written, and you can spend hours there learning!!

By the way, our churches name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The name "mormon" is a nickname that was used because of the name of one of our books we consider scripture. It was meant to be a derogatory nickname, and most LDS people I know, would much rather be called either Latter-Day saints, or LDS.

Go to mormon.org that can answer a lot of questions you might have about beliefs. But as far as some of the ridiculous rumors out there- i would say most of them are completley fabricated and the rest are half truths- spun whichever way to the tellers liking. There are a lot of misconceptions-ie: polygamy (not practiced by LDS members- but some fundamentalist groups not associated with the religion do still illegaly practice it) it was practiced for a short time, but banned in the 1800's. People try to glamourize it with tv shows and such and twist it to seem like we all have secret families hiding in the basement! it's absoultley ridculous, but i guess it makes for great tv so they don't care that they aren't showing truths- and making it seem like that's really what the religion is about.
* I'm not sure why everyone makes a big fuss about it- probably because in religous years, it's still fairly new. Most religions practiced todays roots were started centuries ago. So the questionable practices and things aren't drugged up because they happened so long ago. But really- it comes down to the fact that LDS people don't live by society standards. And that seems strange to some people. We have morals, standards and guidelines that are no longer mainstream. They stay the same, no matter how societies standards are declining around us. We have temples that are sacred, and only worthy members can enter. Some people feel like it's secretive, but it's not- we hold it sacred. It's like a rare gem- if anyone could get there hands on one- and treat it like it were just a piece of stainless steel- it would have no siginifigance-it would have no real worth. I think some people feel angry because our temples exclude those that are not worthy members. but the fact of the matter is they are not museums, they are not something that you can pay an admission and take a tour of- and that really upsets people. Mormons for the most part are good people. They really try to live good lives with family values, and to build the communities. They really try to serve others. They get a lot of flack because this world is filled with ignorance, intloerance and bigatry. It sucks- but those that stand out- those that aren't mainstream and blend in with the crowd, are usually the ones that are always getting picked on. That's the mormons.

I've been a member since September, 1965. Through the years, I've studied the history of the Church as well as the doctrines. Regardless the sour events in the past that many throw up in our faces, the Church is true, the doctrine is freshly revealed from the Lord, and I concur in its teachings.

All the naysayers about Mormonism do not sway me one jot or tittle. I choose to stay in the Church because I know it is right.

hey- we're a very peculiar people (and happy to be so!) we live our lives to God's standards- that he has given to us thru the Bible and the Book of Mormon. and for some people, that's just too much for them to understand. We don't drink, smoke, do drugs, we don't believe in sex before marriage... in a world where even in centuries old religions, the standards of righteousness are falling, and religious leaders are constantly lowering the bar as to what's acceptable just to keep people happy, we "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" are continuing to strive for more... we're raising our standards and we won't apologise for that. There's a lot of negative press about our faith, but most (and i dare say ALL) or it is unfounded, misinterpreted or just plain silly! if you want to know about the church and "what's going around right now" try talking to a member of the church or some LDS missionaries- at least you'll get the truth from a reliable source!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints isn't as weird as you think. However, most of us joke about Utah Mormon culture (eg having 5 kinds of Jello for Thanksgiving dinner and only 2 kinds of meat).

How can you tell it's a Mormon wedding?
The bride isn't pregnant, but her mother is!

Don't listen to those strange things, that's fake. Mormons believe in Jesus and they are Jesus' restored gospel. They believe in God above and they are usually nice and good people. I know many Mormons and they sure are good friends.

God and his son Jesus Christ have visited Earth again. Angels have ministered to his servents. Plain and precious truths have been restored, never to be taken from the Earth again. I plead with you to listen to the still small voice inside, the same voice which led you to ask this question, which will manifest the truth of these things to you. One thing I know is that their holy book (book of Mormon) talks of a people that lived in America before the native Americans. Interestingly enough archaeologists have never found any remnants of that culture or any remains from wars the book of Mormon speaks of. Also many of the things in the book of Mormon are out of time and place. for example it says the people used metal currency, yet metal did not exist in the Americas until the Europeans came. Also it talks of animals and plants that are not native to America.

Just a couple reasons that may cause me to doubt the validity of their holy book

They believe that jesus came to the North American continent and preached to the native peoples who left some documentation of these sermons written in special tablets which only Joseph Smith could read with the help of special glasses that the Angel Moraniah < not sure how thats spelled> led him to. They were driven out of the eastern seaboard by other Christian groups and moved to Utah. They are not allowed to drink alcohol or caffiene, but they can have a bunch of wives. Back in t he past they would do a lot of daughter swapping. dont know about now.
