Did I once again get several thumbs down for suggesting someone love and respect someone else? Is that the "new" religion - do unto others the opposite of what you wish done to you?

What exactly is wrong with loving and respecting others, especially family members? Isn't that what jesus said on a number of occasions? So why is it bad if he suggested it?

Actually, the answer wasn't generic; I gave you the basic gist of the message - but thanks for your generalization and generic answer!!

Specifically, I said that the person should love and respect their soon to be born borther or sister and realize their mom will still have enough love for both of them.

To many people, showing love and respect is seen as a weakness. They see trash-talking and getting "one-up" on people as strength. But I say...anyone can fight tooth and nail and look like a moron...it's people who can step down and humble themselves who are showing a true strength by standing against the louder bullies. It's a little thing that some of us refer to as Pangelism, named after Pangel who is well-known for her respect for others while searching for answers.

OK, I'll bite. But this is going to be righ between the eyes ...

The real question is why do you need affirmation from strangers? Or do you use this forum as a cheap form of therapy? No, I'm not trying to be offensive, or derisive. You just need to understand whay you are looking for ... and determine if this forum is the place where you can get that fulfilled.

A stranger can serve as a great listener, or even as a sounding board for a venting ... they may possess wisdom that they can share ... but that isn't always the case. One time you may be talking to a philanthropist ... and the next time to a misanthropist. Ast the knight said in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, "Choose wisely."

Unfortunately there seems to be a whole lot of hate going around.(see my most recent question). It seems that SOME of the people who choose these religions feel that the "Do onto others" rule is only for everyone else. It is wielded as a weapon along with all the other rules they choose to quote at you, but refuse to follow themselves. What you said was true and kind, just remember there are a lot of people out there just spreading hate. Remember that there are plenty of us who know that you are a good and loving person and really aren't those the people whose opinion matters. Don't get me wrong, I know how hard it is to deal with the rudeness, I get just as upset. I just hope to make you feel a little better if possible
Blessings.

Yes, you should respect and care about everyone but the majority of young people today only care about themselves. The is a minority who do care bunt not most. Today kids parents buy their kids whatever they want and let them runamuck. Some of it is the parents fault because if the kids are not seen then the parents won't get into a fight with them. Others believe that it is the parents duty to raise their child and give what ever makes them happy, including a fully paid education. Me I think the kid should have to earn everything they get, including the college education. If you want something in life then go out a earn it. Have enough respect for everyone and yourself in order to succeed in life.

It is because they know you're right, but they only want to preach hate. So by giving you a thumbs down, they think it will give the questioner and others a feeling of "hmm no one likes this idea, it must be bad". Then those people have won. Keep preaching peace and love...it will catch on.

If you are not one of the Christian elite on this board, they will give you a thumbs down every single time. Happens to me all the time.

I only give thumbs down when someone proves their own ignorance.

Nothing is wrong with what you ask except please don't ask me to love and respect anyone who thinks that women are not human and killing others to bend them to their will is OK.
I will not love and respect this.........
I also will not love and respect anything that tells me that one race is better than another, that the death of an infant is better than the selfish life of an adult that a selfish lifestyle that is willing to toss another aside because they need to fullfill themselves is somehow more nobel............

hmmmm.......... what was it you wanted me to love and respect that I wasn't?

It all depends on what you are asking us to respect. I don't respect homosexuals. I don't respect drunks. I don't respect terrorist. I don't respect rapist and child molestors. I don't respect people that refuse to work and ask for handouts from people that do work. I don't respect people that disrespect the USA, the flag, and the US Military. What exactly do you wish for me to respect?

there's always going to be people giving thumbs down just for having different beliefs, that's how people are.
