With all of the references to the Watchtower, you would think that fair and balanced reading would include "The Kingdom of the Cults" by Walter Martin. Can you respond to his book without hate filled rhetoric?

......Using "god doesn't exist so your entire question is flawed" as an answer? It pisses me off. Thats just as bad as Christians saying "because it sys so in the bible. Fellow atheists, can't you please answer with some substance?

I've been reading a lot about the faith of Islam since it has been in the news a lot lately here in the US. I'm going to go ahead and say it...I am not a Muslim. However, I want to know and understand the faith, so that is why I am proposing these questions.

There are so many questions I have about the Quran, but I'll start with this: the Quran teaches that the Bible/Torah is correct and not to dispute it. (Quran 5:68, 29:46). However, this cannot be, since the Quran contradicts the Jewish/Christian sources. Muslims get around this by saying that the Christians and Jews corrupted thier books. This is impossible, as you'll see below.

Quote:
"God said: 'O Jesus son of Mary, recall My blessings upon you and your mother that I supported you with the Holy Spirit ... and I taught you the Scripture and the wisdom, and the Torah, and the Injeel'" (Quran 5:110)

Ok, this presents so many questions...Since Jesus taught the Injeel (Gospels) and the Torah, and Allah supported Jesus in his teachings, then Jesus and the scriptures must have been correct at the time (roughly 30 AD). Therefore, it must follow that up to that point, the Jewish and Christian Scriptures were 100% without flaw/corruption. Thus, the Tahrif, or fabrication by the Jews/Christians, occured between the death of Christ (33ish AD) and the birth of the Quran (7th century).

No such evidence exists. There were tons of copies of the Jewish Scriptures scattered in tons of countries at the time of Jesus. For the Jews to have changed all of them, for no apparent reason, makes little sense and cannot be supported at all by any historical evidence. In fact, the dead sea scrolls that were recently discovered were written before Jesus was even on earth...they confirm the validity of the Jewish scriptures. Also, note that most of the changes are not even important theological issues...which further begs the question: why would Jews corrupt their books to change little, insignificant details that have no bearing on the faith?

Later on in that passage, it becomes clear that Muhammed had a false view of what Christianity was. In 5:116, God says "O Jesus son of Mary, did you tell the people to take you and your mother as gods instead of God?" Clearly, Muhammed here is referring to the Christian view of the trinity. Except instead of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Muhammed thought it was Jesus, Mary, and the Father. There is no historical evidence of there ever being a cult of any sorts that worshiped Mary as a God. (This is why to this day, Muslims have a misunderstanding of the Trinity in Christianity...many believe that Mary is worshiped as a God)

There is so much evidence scattered throughout the Quran that strongly suggests that the Quran copied the Bible inaccurately, as if done orally years after hearing about the Bible (Muhammed didn't read/write). For instance, the Quran confused the sister of Moses (Miriam) with Mary, the mother of Jesus (In Hebrew, Miriam and Mary are the same names.). These two people lived 1,500 years apart.

Sorry for the long post, and if it came off sounding harsh, I apologize...I don't want this to turn into a bashing of religions. I just want to know what your view on this is.

I have studied different religions for many years, and recently I have discovered that I do not know Christianity as well as I thought. Since this was my first religion, I think I should understand it better. There are many different Bibles out there, or should I say VERSIONS of these Bibles.
I have the KJV and The NIV, but I do not have the Catholic or the Jehovah's Witnesses versions. I would like to know where I can get copies of these books and more if I have missed any? for free if possible. If not, then the cheapest ones out there.
Thank you all for your help.

Why do so many people allow silly body taboos get in the way of experiencing something so natural, refreshing, beautiful and -innocent- as standing nude in the rain?

Seriously. Wouldn't society be a better place if we all felt free to do that whenever it rained?

I believe my question here satisfies this http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqtkrAVZH2B6QPdI4wpDt4AgBgx.?qid=20070706081149AAzGmR4 However many people disagree with this. What current attempts have been made to explain the problem of imperfection. Don't say it's due to evil because I'm pretty sure that Adam and Eve couldn't jump over fields and never suffer from hunger. I am an atheist so I don't want any responses reflecting this.

Fervently with so many obstacles agaisnt them?

I think we can all agree it has been the JEWS they have been persecuted from day one, societies have been trying to wipe them out since they came to be..(A PEOPLE THAT WORSHIPPED ONE GOD) creator of Heaven and Earth.

They are also a people that survived with much adversity to become some of the most successful people in history in Medicine, Science, Technology.

Jesus came to earth as a a Jewish Man and although the differences between christians and some jews who do not recognize Jesus as Messiah still exsist GOD never abandoned the Jews as his Chosen Flock that is why Israel has not been destroyed

So tell me what society has flourished and still exsist with greatness without GOD?

Please name one

I have nothing against my Jewish brothers and sisters, so I hope this question does not offend some people.

But, I just don't get it. Had Jesus been Jewish, wouldn't his name have been Jesus Jew, and NOT Jesus Christ?

Of course Jesus was a Christian. He is the king of the Christian Faith. Doesn't take too much fancy learning to understand that simple concept. Duh!

I've always heard that in Christianity Suicide is the only unforgiveable sin. Apparently because God gives you life so it's a sin to end your own, or something like that. Correct me if i'm wrong but if somebody murders, they take someone elses life. I've never heard anything about that being unforgiveable. So how can it be so bad to end your own life willingly but not to take someone elses life when they still want to live? Either way, aren't your ending the life that God has given you? Sometimes the life of many.

Why can't he be simply the king? What does it change if he is not God. YHWH said from the beginning that there is only one God. Never one God, three persons in that God. Only one.
