I have studied different religions for many years, and recently I have discovered that I do not know Christianity as well as I thought. Since this was my first religion, I think I should understand it better. There are many different Bibles out there, or should I say VERSIONS of these Bibles.
I have the KJV and The NIV, but I do not have the Catholic or the Jehovah's Witnesses versions. I would like to know where I can get copies of these books and more if I have missed any? for free if possible. If not, then the cheapest ones out there.
Thank you all for your help.

PastorArt, I was Holiness Pentecostal and Assembly of God,
and the other person who said "false bibles" yes, I know my history and i know what the Bible says. "work out your own salvation...with God"
so my salvation is my own to deal with, and what exactly is the harm in reading all the different versions and seeing where they cross each other? if I read the J.W. and it says, Love your neitghbor, and the catholic Bible says love your neightbor and the KJV says love your neighbor, doen't that mean that i should love my neighbor?

OK so maybe I should clarify a little more....I want the actual books, so that I can take them with me when I go somewhere. I like to read on long trips and when I am waiting somewhere but i can't take the internet or a bunch of pages that I printed out with me.
Can anyone point me to a site that I can order a free Bible/Religious Holy book? I don't care if it is Jewish, Christian or Islamic. they are all worshipping the same God, adn I feel that study in all those would be beneficial.
Any denomination of Christian would be good too. Any form of the Bible.

Dear friends,
If you are looking for copies of the various bibles, I would go to the various church denominations and ask the Pastor if you can have a copy of the bible that he uses. I believe that most any church has copies of the bible that they use, and that the Pastor would be more than willing to give you a copy, perhaps even a used version.
Technically speaking, all the various New Testaments should be the same. There are differences in the Old Testament books between the Catholic and King James versions. I liked what Pastor Art said about all the translations, if they all say "love your neighbor" then you should obviously be able to understand this message correctly. I get concerned when a particular person will say positively the bible means such and such to support a particular doctrine, like post-trib, pre-trib viewpoints, or that "we" have the only path to heaven. I don't believe that any one man knows everything, although some men sure do know a lot, much better than I.
It is good you want to read God's word, and the various translations that are out there. In the end you must follow your heart, to guide your intellect, and embrace and live the Gospel as best as you can understand and do.
I pray for God's blessing during your journey,
Jeff

The Jehovah's Witnesses rely on the New World Translation.
Catholics have an ancient version known as the Douay-Rheims Bible, but a more contemporary Catholic version is the New American Bible (not to be confused with the New American Standard Bible).
Personally I think it is an inferior translation, and a better contemporary Catholic version is the New Jerusalem Bible, or an even better recent Catholic version is the Confraternity Version.

Most public libraries have copies of all of the different versions of the Holy Bible, as well as, other religions bibles. There is a Christian library in Boston, MA, near the State House.

The difference between the KJV & NIV and the Catholic, JW, and Mormon bibles are this -- those bibles were changed by men who wanted people to believe what they believe. That is what religion is. Man made rules and regulations.
I do not consider Christianity a religion (even though it says so in the dictionary) I consider a Christian a person who has repented, has Jesus in their heart and adheres to his teachings and principles. No man made rules & regulations.
You don't need those other bibles. You have the right ones already.

Those who say Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christian have an ulterior motive.
We use many translations of the Scriptures, including the KJV. The NWT is our preferred version for our own study, but if we are talking to someone who wants to use another translation, that is fine too.
The first link here is to the NWT online; the second to a bunch of others:

If you are looking for the ORIGINAL bible, then you want the Greek Eastern Orthodox Bible as Emperor Constantine and the Council of Nicea compiled the first Christian bible. You may also wish to research the Coptic Christian Bible, the Torah (the Jewish bible / old testament) , the Dead Sea scrolls and the Forbidden Books of the Bible.
Blessed be

The person who said JWs are not christians have their facts seriously confused! We ARE christians!
If you would like a copy of a modern day english Bible that is easy to understand and is accurate, go to your local Kingdom Hall. JWs will be more than happy to give you a copy. Something else you might want to ask them for to go along with it is a book called "What does the Bible Really Teach." It is a GREAT book and it will help you along in your study of the Bible. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any JWs, they will be more than happy to answer them for you. Enjoy!

EDIT
Please don't pay attention to others who say that we have our "own" Bible. This is not true. The NWT is a modern day English and is accurate. We have the name Jehovah in it because that is accurate, it is his name and over the years other people have taken it OUT of other Bibles. If you ever did study with JWs, you could use ANY Bible you wanted, YOUR OWN personal copy, and it would be fine by us. FYI

God has given us additional scripture (The Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ) to help clarify his teachings, and to serve as an additional testament of Jesus Christ. It's Gods work in these latter-days, which is a marvelous work and a wonder. You will gain insights through the spirit about the Bible you never knew were possible. Things will become simple and clear. God loves you and has provided a way to get your answers in these days. You can chat online with missionaries live at mormon.org. They can give you a FREE copy of the KJ version and the Book of Mormon. I think that is awesome that you are so devoted to the scriptures! (Joseph Smith, a latter-day prophet, helped restore, and acurately translate many bible passages.)

I'm very curious what your original denomination was.
The JW Bible, known as the New World Translation or NWT, is what I call the "Revised Standard Perversion" since five people translated it. They started with the KJV and just modified it a bit to put their own weird beliefs into the text.
None of the five member translating team was even a college graduate.
Roman Catholic Bibles have a few extra books added in 1546 in their attempt to get Martin Luther to quit complaining about selling indulgences.
Here is a link to that translation:

All literature from Jehovah's Witnesses is free. (Why charge for what God gave us for free?) The bible that we use is translated directly from what was written by the inspired men. Ours is somewhat is modern day English though. Just doesn't have the "thee" and the "thou" stuff in it. It also restores the name of God , which is Jehovah, (Psalms 83:18) to its proper place. If you read any KJV, you will find the word "LORD" in capital letters. That means that God's name was in that spot, it is just that in that translation they took it out. So God's name is used frequently in the copy used by JW's. For a free home bible study, contact your local congregation.
