Sweden, the Netherlands, Canada, etc.
And there are plenty of GOD-fearing societies that don't do so well in the Third World.

"What society... has fared well without God? ... we can all agree it has been the Jews."
Why do you say that the Jews are a religion without a god? Judaism is all about worship and obedience to their God, Jehovah, and without Judaism there would be no Christianity.
I don't think there has been a society, yet, that has not believed in a god in one form or another (of course there have always been individual interpretations of religion, and individuals who didn't believe in a god at all). Voltaire wrote, "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him." Mankind has always felt a need to understand life and the universe, and when they couldn't understand they have always filled the gaps with mythology, including a god, or gods, in one form or another. As knowledge and understanding progressed, however, the need for a god to explain the otherwise unexplainable has diminished. No one today believes, for example, that the sun is carried across the sky by some sort of god, or that a dragon eats the moon during a lunar eclipse.
Religion has also always been a bane of science, fighting it at every turn, because a decreased need for a god to explain things diminishes the power and authority of religion and religious leaders. The furor over Copernicus' solar-centered planetary system, and Galileo's assertion that the Earth moves, are historical examples of religion's hindrance of science, just as the furor over evolution and stem cell research are examples of religion's attempt to stifle scientific progress and knowledge even today.
So there has not up to this time (to my knowledge or belief) been a society that has not believed in a god or gods in one form or another. Even in the "atheistic" communist nations of Russia (USSR) and China, religion has been an irresistable force. I do forsee a day in the future, the far distant future, when all religions are distant, quaint memories, just as the Greek and Roman pantheons are today.

Okay, other people have named "one" so I don't need to add to that. What I would like to comment on is this: " ....although the differences between christians and some jews who do not recognize Jesus as Messiah still exsist....." Some Jews? Simple definition of Jews -- those who do NOT accept Jesus Christ as the true Messiah. Any Jew who believes in the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus is, by definition, a Christian. Now don't go all postal on me...I respect everyone's faith/religion/lack of religion...I wish they would return the favor.

The United States. I don't know if you noticed, but we seem to serve several gods here, not just the Jewish and christian variety. A quiet a few of us serve no god at all.
But I think you need to learn about Jews, from Jews instead of from christians. Here are a few websites you can check out if you're too afraid to talk to one yourself.
You are being misled by scoundrels who took the Hebrew Bible out of context, rearranged it to suit their needs, and convinced you that their way is right, sort of like what can be seen in this illustration: http://www.messiahtruth.com/discovery.html
Learn about Judaism, and then make your comparisons.

The Chinese never worshipped your god, and a thousand years ago they had a civilization that made us white, European, God-fearing sorts look like the smelly, primitive, backward barbarians we really were. They had invented the magnetic compass, had superior sailing ships, invented gunpowder, and studied the stars and planets. The Indians had invented algebra. The Mayans developed a calendar superior to that of the Romans and were contemplating the zero -- the absence of value -- while your ancestors and mine were busy burning people at the stake for witchcraft and blasphemy.

That would be native americans. Before Christians came and raped and killed them under Manifest Destiny.
No god worshipped. "the creator" crap is Christian revisionism. They worshipped the land. The translation into English is the creator.

'SOME Jews do not recognize Jesus as messiah' ???
How about 99.99999% of them.
Considering Israel has only existed for 50 something years, I would think your god has plenty of time to destroy it.
Good grief, were you home schooled by a hamster?

The atheist time will come. For much of the past humanity has been shackled by ignorance and superstition. How long did it take us to invent computers? How long before we were able to conceive of, harness, and go beyond the atom? We are hovering at the doorstep of the golden age of humanity, free of the primitive superstitions of old. Of course, 'age' refers to geological time, not a puny human lifetime.

Many East Asian countries have flourished quite nicely without belief in God. It's only in recent years that Abrahimic religion has found its way to the Indies, Japan, China, Korea, etc.
