I have been raised SDA & while I don't attend church like I should I still believe the core ideas of the Seventh Day Adventist church. The man that I hope to marry, the love of my life, is a devout Catholic. We’ve discussed, in great detail what we each believe & we’re at a place where we agree 2 disagree on this topic. I love him & I'm not going 2 try 2 change him & he feels the same way about me. We’re both being very understanding & respectful of eachothers beliefs. However, when we talk about children, we tend 2 bump heads. We want 2 raise them in both churches, but how do you tell your kids that Saturday is the Sabbath, yet you have 2 go 2 church on Sunday too? Or tell them that they have 2 go 2 confession, but mommy doesn't believe in it? There are several other issues that we need 2 work on, these are just examples. But I would really appreciate any advice you can give. Are there any websites that can help with topics like this? I know there has 2 be a compromise.

Are there any Christians out there Afraid of people questioning their beliefs? Where do the unbelievers come up with this stuff? With The Almighty God on our side, why would we fear anything?

For instance, I had a fundie tell me that when a person is in church and a really moving song is played/sung and they get the chills, that the chills are really the Holy Spirit moving through their body. She also says members of the church congregation, on occasion, get annointed with "Holy Laughter". When she tells the story you realize the person just got the giggles and couldn't quit. We've all experienced both of these things no matter what religion we are, or no religion at all. When you tell her those things happen to you all the time, her -- brain -- cannot -- compute -- and she changes the subject. Is it just that they close themselves off so much from the rest of society that they are just out of touch with reality?

Did you know that in Islam, women have a great many rights, and in many cases religiously are even above the men, such as when they are mothers and the children must obey their mother first above their father? Did you know that in the case of divorce, she has the right to full custody of the children and the father comes fourth in line after the maternal bloodline has been exhausted?

Did you know that if a woman wants a baby and the man does not, he must still allow that to happen because it's her right, not duty, to have a baby? Even if he doesn't want a baby or children at all, he must still peacefully and agreeably fulfill that duty?

People have this image of Islam, and they take it all from the news. Did it ever occur to anyone that the news is news because what happened is not the usual? For example, people love to state that Islam says to kill women for being raped. Nope, because Islam says to stone the rapist and leave the victim alone. What do you think?

The Christian postings on R&S are totally devoid of any style or flash. I think they would attract more interest if they weren't so terribly ill-worded....we won't touch upon the subject of their poor spelling.

I have always held that we Atheists have a bit of an edge because of the generally higher level of education we possess; however, even a mediocre education should allow for a bit more creative question than "Why Do You Accuse Me Of Pushing Christ On You?"...one of the worst-written questions ever.

Jack is, of course, more sensitive to such things, being a consummate practitioner of the written word, but surely others have noticed this as well? What is the reason for the generally poor quality of the Christian fundamentalist postings?

This stylish question has been brought to you courtesy of Jack, the Simon Cowell of R&S

Check out this article, its really amazing where science is going...all without religion or a god.
Science is on the verge of creating life from scratch, I wonder what Christians have to say about that?

So I went to a local car audio shop on Friday and said I wanted subs & an amp put into my car... I asked how much he could do it for to make it sound how I wanted, and he told me $300... I still had a stock cd player in my car, and was willing to spend $500, so I told him to add that in there if he could keep it around $500. The guy ended up putting top of the line subs, amp & cd player in my car and didn't charge me on my bill at all for the subs or the sub box (I guess being a cute girl in a miniskirt does have its advantages). He called me now this morning and said his manager noticed that he didn't charge me and I would have to pay an additional $170 for the subs. I told him what I wanted my total to be and he chose to upgrade my system and not charge me. Should I suck it up and pay it or not pay it because it was his mistake not mine? I don't want to get him in trouble, but he knew what he was doing. Please help!!!

Question to believers.
It has been noted in the medical field that there are explanations for religious experiences: abnormalities in the temporal lobe
It has also been noted that you can induce out of body experiences by stimulating the right angular gyrus
the cause of near death experiences: hypoxia

Could it be that the god stuff is all in your head?

Why is this attitude so accepted? I don't like people assuming things about me because I'm white. If the stereotype about me is true, isn't it possible that a lot of people that aren't white do the same things?

Case and point
STEREOTYPE:
All black people like fried chicken.
I like fried chicken.
Therefore I must be black.

See? it doesn't make sense it is just inductive reasoning.

and a spiritual atheist believe in mediums, incense, & meditation for spiritual guidance, than what the heck am I?

I always thought I was an agnostic atheist. The more I read, however, the more I realize that I do not believe one of the strong tenets of agnosticism - that I cannot prove the experience of a god or gods. This is not how I think. I am absolutely certain that there are no gods. Burden of proof doesn't even come into play. Different energies, yes, but no gods. I cannot prove the existence of Spiderman but I don't believe in him whatsoever because I know he doesn't exist because of logic and not burden of proof. I do believe in a collective, universal energy in nature that, far beyond the measure of science and mathematics.

What would this be called, if I was called on to explain my beliefs in an abbreviated fashion?

Thanks all! This would really help me out in regard to telling others who I am on a more spiritual level.

In these rooms I have noticed that there are some people that are so adimate about completly bashing the Christian faith. Now I do not agree with trying to pursuade people to believe what I believe. I feel like what I believe is great or else I would not believe it. But when I see people showing so much disrespect to the Christian faith it makes me wonder. What is the biggest deciding factor out there.

I know there are a lot of overboard zelots, but does that just contradict every single person. I had a friend that was Muslim. He was an awesome guy, and we asked each other questions all the time, but I do not relate him with the terrorists of 911. I still do not agree with his religion but I did not beat him up for it.

So what is the deal?

Are there any Bagists out there in Yahoo!?
I see them on TV sometimes when I watch nfl football. ( I still have yet to figure out why the bagists only seem to be in Cleveland, Detroit, Arizona. I think they moved from Cincinnati to Cleveland.) Is bagism dead? Is John Lennon's message dead? What was his message anyway?

Racsim is composed of 3 things: Impostion, Idealogy, and Institutional Arrangement.
Impostion: Means to force
Idealogly: A value or belief
Instituitional Arragnement: Laws and government polices
Case in point: The black panthers were a Black power group that wanted to help and bring equality and rights to the oppresed peoples of America( Women, Blacks, Hispanics, and Poor people) How can they be a "racsit" group if they many poor whites aided then during the Civil Right Movement.
Another instance is Ethocentrism: People confuse ethocentrism with racsim. Ethiocentrism is the belief the ones culture is superior than another. This is not racism this is idealogy.
Bigotry: Stereotyping, Racial Slurs. Just because someone calls you a a slur doesn't make them as racsit they are clearly a bigot. Everyone express forms of bigorty but racism is different. only few people are actuall racists. Including Adolf Hilter, Strom Thrumand, Woodrow Wilson, Trent Lott, T.C. Williams.
