For instance, I had a fundie tell me that when a person is in church and a really moving song is played/sung and they get the chills, that the chills are really the Holy Spirit moving through their body. She also says members of the church congregation, on occasion, get annointed with "Holy Laughter". When she tells the story you realize the person just got the giggles and couldn't quit. We've all experienced both of these things no matter what religion we are, or no religion at all. When you tell her those things happen to you all the time, her -- brain -- cannot -- compute -- and she changes the subject. Is it just that they close themselves off so much from the rest of society that they are just out of touch with reality?

Evangelicals/Fundamentalists are among the most anal retentive of the denominations in Protestantism, for sure the drops of rain running down the window are actually God`s tears of joy for the humility and downright fairness of these people!!
They do not judge others apparently nor do they subtly move the goalposts of scripture to suit themselves, apparently!
More ground would be gained in Eucumenism if not for these holier than everyone else Bible bashers.

Not all Christians believe in holy laughter (I think it's ridiculous) or getting the Holy Spirit in the way you describe. One problem with everyone (I do it too) is steryotyping and grouping people in unfair ways based on their own experinces with only a few of these poeple or based on what they've been told about these people. And one big problem with the way people (even some Christians) look at Christianity is that they look at it as a religion, and mostly about experiencing or doing things in public, rather tnan a relationship with Christ.

A new or inexperienced Christian may believe that the "chills" or "giggles" are the Holy Ghost when they are not, but like you said, they can happen to anyone.

Even most Spirit baptized believers today do not have a deep or great experience in the Holy Ghost. There is some power and you may experience some of His presence, but it is nothing like the Bible says that it should be.

Quite often when some one gets to feel God's presence, they quite often stop looking for more and get comfortable with what little experience they have. But those feelings are to make us desire to experience more of God and not settle for what scraps we have.

One powerful thing I learned about the Holy Spirit is that others that have the Holy Spirit automatically sense authentic testimonies from the fake ones. I don't judge the fake ones because its not my duty to judge. If they are open to it, I will only help them see that faking it won't fool God. Otherwise I won't say anything and just pray for their souls to come to sincere repentance of misrepresenting the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. God will judge and deal with those that are backslidden.

It's really just an acceptance of any theory or information that is suitable for their agenda and discounting any that does not fit in with their agenda. Out of touch with reality is a mild way of putting it!

Or when they go on about the amazing recovery of some Christian or other from cancer, totally ignoring the fact that people of all faiths and none recover from those same types of cancer.

Nice question. But I think it is just because that is what they grew up thinking. And that is what their parents and their parents parents grew up thinking. It is a "sin" to believe otherwise or question it. So yes, they are brainwashed to be out of touch with reality.

Sometimes I wonder. But they feel that looking for answers outside of God is bad. I don't get that either.
