Why does the Bible promote sexism, slavery, murder, and the like? I realize these are old testament things mostly, but then why were they ever written at all, as inspired by God. It seems contradictory that God is love, yet God encouraged these things. Can anyone explain? Does this not have the fingerprints of human bias all over it, such that a man who wished to promote slavery, murder, sexism, etc. wrote them in a book of "God"? I'm honestly curious if someone could explain this to me.

These blatant moral wrongs are not reconcillable with the "God is love" philosophy, in my opinion.

Please do not take offense. I truly want to understand. Please give thoughtful answers, and refrain from quoting the Bible - that doesn't help me understand any better, only perspectives and reasoning do. Thanks in advance.

Should I believe them?
She pouts her hand on my sholder and runs it down my back.
Her smille is so seductiv,It drive's me whiled.

A tingl of excitement that I thought was long sints past never to be felt agen.
It has bin twenty years sints I let my self open up the bomb shelter and be lied to by someone in the ril would.
She hasent tried to toy with my hart yet,but I havent let her get that close.My defences are bracking down.And if thay do,Can I be too old?

I gave my mother diamond earrings for her birthay. It took me an hour to pick them out, and about $400 to walk out of the store with them. Gift wrapped, bought insurance for them, etc. You should have seen her face when I presented them to her; you'd have thought I gave her a pair of glow-in-the-dark flip-flops or something. Her reaction was soo blah. "They're fine" she says. She doesn't like them, but doesn't want to exchange them. Her reacion really hurt my feelings. Should I say something about it?

Atheists aren't going to change their minds. The only reason that I come here is to present an arguement, that usually cuts down the middle in agreement. There is the occational person that has a biblical question that I try to help them in understanding. But, after a few visits here, its just repetition. I did learn a bit about other religions in the first few visits though.

If God were to come to you right now and said to you, I give you a choice take your child and sacrifice him/her to prove to me you believe in me would you do it. Do you believe that strongly that you would be able to do it. This time it did happen and there was no "lamb". How do you feel. Do you still think you did the right thing. If you say God has his reasons, is this enough. Was it worth the sacrifice to you to enter the kingdom of heaven. Do you live the rest of your days in hapiness knowing you will enter heaven even though your child is gone from the here and now.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to be accusing, I am just very curious.

I ask this because in the early days of my life in the church many times I have been beseeched to discontinue in my own philosophies. In other words, even though I was in my mind and heart faking the religious experience, I felt as though persecuted for asking questions, inquiring, etcetera. Please tell me why some Christians are OK with Philosophy, when my experiences have been so bitter?

As children, we always called our neighbors, "Mrs. Jones" or "Mr. Smith", and in most cases so did our parents. Close friends of the parents were often called "Aunt Betty" or "Uncle Frank." Our friend's parents were "Mr and Mrs Thompson." This is not back in the dark ages--it was still happening in the 80s. We would never dream of calling adults by their first names.
