It definately depends on where you're from and what you want to do with it. English shares it's grammatical structure with german, both being decendants of high germanic. However, English gets most of it's vocabulary from Latin and it's offshoots (such as French and Spanish). So if you live in an area, or aim to live in an area with a high proportion of people speaking one of these languages, consider that. Otherwise, just go with whatever interests you. In general, I've found having studied Latin, Spanish, and French has helped me a bit in understanding Latin based languages, including the other languages beyond which I studied.

If you ask this question .... you will get many opinions from different people ... The question is which one would you like to learn? or is the question ... Which language is most beneficial to learn? .... or maybe the question is ... Which one is the easiest to learn?
Which question are you asking?
if you are asking the first question ... only you can answer that one because only you know which language you would like to learn or which one you prefer ....right?
If you are asking the second question .... well, that depends on where you are and what language you already speak ..if you already speak English and you are in U.S.A then maybe Spanish would be most helpful because there is a large Spanish population ... if you are in Louisiana well maybe French would be helpful because of the french that is spoken there ...
...if you are in Europe well its a toss up between french and German and heck even Spanish ...
Now, if you are asking the third question ... Spanish is by far the easiest language to learn ..its not half as complicated as German or french ... German and French have some similarities and complications .... but when its all said and done ... its still up to you ...

Better for learning? If it's for the sake of learning, I would bet on Spanish, which to my judgment is more beautiful than either French or German. I also have the distinct impression that Spanish is easier to learn than French or German. It helps that Spanish is written as pronounced, most of the time, unlike French or German, both of which have many nuances in pronunciation.
I am still learning Spanish, true, but my first brush with French and German (books on learning the languages) were unpleasant, made so by the difficulties in pronunciation. The fact that I had high school and college Spanish made my interest in that language sharper.
In my case (I'm Filipino), you can say that it's part of my culture: we Filipinos used to have Spanish as an official language (along with English and Filipino). We have also borrowed countless words from Spanish.
Besides, Spanish is one of the languages of the future. About 400 million can speak Spanish. Many more will learn it as the prestige of Spain and Latin America will increase.

Seeing how English is a variation of the West Saxon Germanic Language, I belive it should be easier to learn German than French or Spanish. But then again, modern english shares some similarities to French and Spanish words. I dont know, just give each a shot and stick to the one you find is better for you.

After Chinese and English, Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world today. It is the official language of 21 countries and the second language in many more, such as the U.S.A. In countries like Japan and Brasil, the study of Spanish as a foreign language has been growing at a very fast pace indeed in recent years. Around 400 million people speak Spanish worldwide and the number continues to grow.
The use of Spanish is also growing in the business world. As the Spanish and South American economies continue to grow and develop, along with the Hispanic market in the United States, interest in Spanish and Hispanic is also increasing.
Spanish is the second most used language in international communication, and it is an official language of the United Nations, the European Union, Mercosur and many other important organizations.

Spanish..look around you and see the Hispanic populations of not only this country but that of the world.
French....not really spoken much unless you are in France or parts of Canada
German....the Germans have lost their clout and the birthrate their is very low...so I would not study this language and I am mostly German myself. If I had to learn a language it would be Spanish...even though my wife is Filipino I still would speak Spanish as you could use this in more places. Plus I think its an easier language to learn.

I speak English and German. Since these are all Romantic languages too learn any of them would help you learn the others. If you live in the US then Spanish would be probably be the easiest to learn because you would have the greatest opportunity to set it into practice. Seek a language that you will be able to put into practice, TV programs, Music, books & Magazines, etc, this will better your chances in learning the language.
Good Luck

Depending on what you want to do with a language, you can learn any of them.
I wouldn't rate better languages; I'd rather speak of easier-to-learn
languages since all the languages are good for me.
I found Spanish easier to learn for an Albanian that I am, then French, and after that German. You haven't mentioned Italian here, otherwise it would be the easiest-to-learn language for an Albanian like me (I cannot generalize even that). I don't know for native English speakers (I assume you are one according to your name) which language would be easier.

I believe a lot of it has to so with your desire to learn and what you may find "fun"
I loved the French Language so it was much easier for e to pick up than Spanish. I had little interest in learning it.
Most would say Spanish is much easier to learn.
