Well...for one take Charles Manson...and looking into his childhood...he was almost rejected from the start from going to a boys home to boys homes, so is that why he became the man that he is? Alcoholics/drug addicts general has a history of alcoholic parents or had a dysfunctional family life. To take a look at my own life, the person I am today is, because of my past (history). Our leaders also try to learn from the leaders in the past as well as the other Presidents not to make the same mistakes as they did. So History can help us understand people, yes most definitely, but it's not absolute.
As for events....I'm not to sure what you want....work field, sports...etc. In the sense of work...I live in a cold snow place...at least this time of year, but in very very cold places...we have learned to use cinders instead of salt on the roads...why? In very cold places salt would melt the snow then refreeze making the driving much worst. As for sports...even the history of the baseball changed in the making for better durability and handling. History has made us of who we are today in person and events a like. History helps us to understand what not to do as well as what to do to make us live better.
