I've heard it said that we Americans value independence and freedom, that we are a melting pot of cultures and traditions, and that these qualities make us a good country. However, I feel like we are NOT independent and NOT free. I feel like we strive to be told how to feel and think, whether it be by mainstream media or political parties or religion. We have freedoms that other countries do not, but every day we willingly deprive others and ourselves of those same liberties. Those don't sound like the actions of people who had to fight for their rights and freedoms. Those sound like the actions of a people who are looking for someone to tell them how to live. Do you feel free and independent, or do you feel like, everywhere you go, you are bombarded with people trying to get you to watch a certain tv show, vote a certain way, belong to a particular church? Are we even free anymore, or have we opressed ourselves?

My officemate hates the smell of boiled eggs. One morning, I brought a boiled egg to work for breakfast but I waited to eat it while she was out on a smoke break, plus I also put the shells in a small plastic bag to eliminate the smell as much as possible and to respect her dislike for the smell. When she returned from break, she was upset that I had eaten the egg and began to spray Oust spray. I politely asked her not to "overspray" because the chemical "fog" triggered my migraines and I already had a mild headache that day. She continued to spray.

At one time, I considered this woman a friend and shared after office hour activities and even invited her to my home on many occasions. After she appeared to purposely try to trigger a migraine by continuing to spray, I no longer consider her a friend.

The office atmosphere is tense to say the least. We used to have a relaxed, fun atmosphere with frequent laughter. Now we rarely speak all day.

If you could do one thing today to change the world, what would it be? It can be as simple as recycling, or limiting use of nonrenewable resources....or....as grand as marching on Washington, DC, or helping refugees in another country. If you have more than one, I'm definitely curious....but I'd like to know what you think each person can do to make the world a better place.

I have been reading with interest some of the answers where it is being pointed out that God gave 'Choice' to his beings and the wrong choice leads Humans to 'fall' ! Is it not something like someone pointing a gun at me and telling me 'Handover everything to me or I shall kill you' !! Is this really a choice or high handedness a method followed by crimnals and tyrants. So, God says "Believe in me or I shall punish you - Eternal Hell".
For an entity called all Wise, all Just and Fair, such a condition of forced obedience under the threat of punishment, Is it really Just and fair ? What sort of choice is this ? Kindly Explain !! I'm Confused. I would rather be without such a God than be with Him, the one who shows total irrationality !!

I think this is one of the most ridiculous questions I have ever seen on Y!A. This person prayed that the Colts would win and she and some who answered the question think god answered their prayers.

This is just one of the MANY reasons I am an atheist. Believers...if your god is so powerful and such a loving god, then why would he answer a prayer like that and yet turn away from all the people who are suffering from abuses, illnesses, starvation, etc? If he is so loving wouldn't he answer the prayers of those who really and truly need help?

Isn't it possible that those who related the stories either lied or misinterpreted facts like virgin birth, water turned into wine, walking on water, Lazurus story, resurrection etc?
