Tell them that your cell phone battery is running out, and ask if you can call them back from a friends phone.

The best way to "shoo" telemarketers is to register your number with the National Do Not Call Registry - www.donotcall.gov. This should cut down on telemarketing calls, although political organizations and charities are exempt. If a telemarketer still calls you after you've registered, find out who they are, let them know you are on the Do Not Call registry, and tell them you are registering a complaint with the FTC.

I have a lot more fun with them by 'misunderstanding' concepts and/or using alternate definitions of common words.
For instance, a tmarketer called me last week wanting donations for some politico and using birth control as the 'come on'.
I asked him if he were pregnant..he said 'no', I then told him that I was not pregnant and did not plan to be so..
You may be able to guess that the convo went downhill (from the tmarketer's perception) from there. I had a lot of fun and I'm pretty sure that my number is now on a don't call, this one's crazy list..
I hope.

The best way to shoo them is to say. " I don't accept telemarketing calls, remove me from your list" then hang up.

I like to say: "tell me if this sounds like a phone hanging up" right before I hang up.
Or you say: "I am kinda busy right now. Why don't you give me your home number and what time you get home, and I will call you back tonight so we can talk about it". They will usually say something back like: "sorry sir, we are not allowed to give out that information". I will retort: "yeah, you probably don't like all kinds of people calling you up all evening when your trying to relax after work huh? You make a good point". then hang up

Great idea but if the marketer speaks that language, you're toast. I just cut them off and say I'm not interested, then hang up.

No, because you will be unlucky enough to get one that speaks the other language. :o)
The best way is to say, clearly and firmly, "I am not interested. Do not call here again. Remove me from all of your lists."

Nah, I just hang up. It's pointless to try and even talk to them.
