My officemate hates the smell of boiled eggs. One morning, I brought a boiled egg to work for breakfast but I waited to eat it while she was out on a smoke break, plus I also put the shells in a small plastic bag to eliminate the smell as much as possible and to respect her dislike for the smell. When she returned from break, she was upset that I had eaten the egg and began to spray Oust spray. I politely asked her not to "overspray" because the chemical "fog" triggered my migraines and I already had a mild headache that day. She continued to spray.

At one time, I considered this woman a friend and shared after office hour activities and even invited her to my home on many occasions. After she appeared to purposely try to trigger a migraine by continuing to spray, I no longer consider her a friend.

The office atmosphere is tense to say the least. We used to have a relaxed, fun atmosphere with frequent laughter. Now we rarely speak all day.

What would YOU do?

In my opinion, you tried to minimize the smell left by hard boiled eggs, but it bothered her still, thus it is possible she took eating eggs in the office as a hostile behavior; she responded with an outburst of irrational anger and hostility (over spraying). In my opinion you have a few options:

1. open a mature dialog
a). take your lunches in a cafeteria, lunch room, or other such room if available.
b). refrain from chemical sprays in the office.

2. Continue the hostilities till one of you, or both, will lose the job.

3. Involve someone in the mediation--coworker, a friend, or a supervisor.

Sick environment (physical and emotional) leads to illnesses-no job is worth it; if all fails please look for a new place of work. Good luck.

I would kindly ask her wish is more disgusting, the smell of hard-boiled eggs or cigarette breath.

Seriously, I LOVE hard-boiled eggs myself, especially deviled eggs! But I will be the first to admit, they do stink to everyone else. Kind of like peanut butter and beer, they taste good to the person consuming, but to everyone else, they stink. (I love a cold beer every once in a while, but it makes my stomach heave to smell beer on someone elses breath.)
I would take my eggs to a break or lunch room for consumption. Its not really fair, but its better than a migraine. Your ex-friend seems to think her cigarette breath is less offensive than the smell of eggs.

i would bring eggs DAILY and eat them OFTEN directly in front of her. i would probably walk around with one in my hand and follow her down the hall or to the water cooler etc. . i would probably keep one (sliced for more aroma) at my area so when she walks by all she can smell is EGG.

i would also go to the doc and get that medicine to keep migraines at bay. (and throw away all the sprays in the bathroom so she'll have to spend a fortune on her own)

Can you eat the egg someplace else? I absolutely HATE working with other people. Most people are plain jerks. I've had people eat tuna fish someplace, not brush their teeth & breath all over me....sickening.

Break the silence by all means. Bluntly tell her she is being unreasonable and be the dominant person towards her.

I would tell the boss, unless she was the boss, then get a new job. Or if you don't know if you would like a new job, then just stop eating eggs. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!!

Well, she could have OCD? My sister does the same thing. But, since you tried to please her, and were considerate enough to think of her feelings, and yet she wasn't considerate on your part-then screw her. Be nice just to keep in a professional level, but avoid her as well. Inconsiderate biitch!
