Society & Culture - 4 December 2006

We are just floating on a speck in an infinite universe. Nothing to do but do what we do. Waiting to be swallowed up again. Do you really find that to be depressing? It is quite freeing to me. If I could just keep that in mind throughout the whole day I think all my fears and dread would be gone. Life really is too short to waste arguing with people who do not wish to know. We're not doing anything here. True wisdom rings true. There is nothing that rings true on here. Not even my words stand up to the criticisms, but that should not keep me from learning and trying to know. So the purpose I have prescribed myself is knowledge. I am done here. I will go make something of the hours remaining of today and the days remaining of my life. I shall find contentment in considering this strange meaningless life.

There are never presents under the tree. She also puts fake presents under the tree so when other family members come to visit they think me and my sister are getting gifts. The fake presents are just empty boxes with pretty wrapping covering them. Is this weird? Why would someone do this?

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi women still can't drive cars, but they can sell them. Potential buyers can go to an all-women showroom where, for the first time, other women will help them choose a car and answer questions about horsepower, carburetors and other automotive features.

"I don't support women driving even if a permission is given for them to do so, because the society is not prepared for such a step," said Widad Merdad, one of the saleswomen, which is privately owned and — like many in Saudi Arabia — offers a range of cars.

While the introduction of car saleswomen into the work force may seem a gain for Saudi women, some say that for every step forward, women suffer other setbacks.

Saudi writer Maram Mekkawi cited a recent incident in which female doctors attending a conference in the same room as men — a rare event in the kingdom — were asked to leave because one speaker refused to address a mixed group. The women left, sparking outrage among other women.

Hello pple,

Me have a question: Whenever I fill out a form (either on campus or at a job), I am asked my race, which is fine -- except that the options are always WHITE, BLACK, HISPANIC, NATIVE AMERICAN, etc, etc.

As we try to deal with the ssue of race (i.e. discrimination due to skin COLOR), why, for goodness sake, do we keep referring to prople as white and black? White and black are colors!!! So why do we refer to people by color in our every day speech?

Why can't we say Caucasian and African American -- JUST like we say Hispanic?? Why say Hispanic, Black and White?

Please help me man, help me --- and please don't tell me that we do so because it is easier (although that may be true) cause I'd say it is easier to get lotsa money robbing a bank than working but yet most of us choose to work instead (....and do so after several gruesome years syudying hard in school).

Some say that some caucasians don't like the word -- so then let's find another one or somethin'!

Every religion believes one thing or another. Jesus is the savour of Christians and same with Jews. The prophet Mohamed is the God of the Muslims. Buddha is the God of Buddhists. How do I know that what I believe in is the real truth and that Im not just believing in fiction? If theres so many Gods and so many religions; which one is the real one?
