I would say training. Never hit your dog though. As long as it doesn't show aggression towards people. How old is he/she?
I have seen MEAN pit bulls and I have seen MEAN Golden retrievers, it's how you raise them! The most awesome dogs I have ever known are 2 pits and 2 golden retrievers. The meanest dog I have ever been around were Yorkies and several Chows (1 nice Chow though too)
It all depends, there are many factors involved when it comes to a dogs aggressiveness.

Pit Bulls are always mean not matter what anyone says. Your best bet would be to get some training for him.

3 choise. 1) u either give the Pit it space that he/she needed, let the dog have sometime w/ it self. 2) Bring him to a doggy training center, so the dog could be train by profesional. 3) Put it to sleep- for the rest of its life.
