I'm a white woman who loves to surf. I went to the beach yesterday with four other women, one little girl, and one man. All the females surfed. Three of us are white, one of us is mixed-race, one is black, and the little girl, who we were teaching, is mostly black. We became really aware of people staring at us eventually. We heard another little girl tell an older boy, "See, girls *can* surf," and other women tell each other, "I've never seen black people surf before." The guy, who hung back on shore, told us he'd heard other comments, too. And we became aware that the only other surfers were white males.

We're not going to stop because of this, but it was a sour note in a mostly good day, and we were glad we all went in a group instead of going alone.

Is anyone else here a surfer who's not a white man? And would you really think anything of it to see non-white and/or female surfers?!

I’m trying to establish a symbolic ritual to commemorate the Last Spaghetti Dinner (LSD) and I’ve spent hour pouring over the photo record but I still can’t figure some things out.

Can you help me out with the elements of the ritual?

Is the Finger of Friendship (Lucky Fokker) extended before or after the meal?

Are meatballs and Jack Daniels suitable as sacraments?

Should we have little cups for the Jack Daniels or just have people pull straight from the bottle?

Should the meatballs be hot or cold?

i work at a tile and material store. we mostly have cement and grout sales which come in bags of 10-50 pounds. i'm the only employer: 5feet tall, 120 pound -girl.

here's the thing that i can't figure out:
the mexican men that come into the shop, will NOT let me help carry anything for them; even if they're by themselves and just bought 25 bags of cement...and they're really nice about it.

while the american men just don't care; in fact; if i just stand there while they load the 25pound bags; they'll give me dirty looks.

why do you think?

Whatever the extremists are doing around the world is cruel and inhumane and it disturbs me as a Muslim as much as it disturbs everyone else. But why do people generalize as all Muslims being like that? Why do people think that Islam preaches that?

Don't they read about rapes, murders, kidnappings in the West every day. Columbine, Oklahoma City bombings, Sniper attacks...nobody characterizes those to any religion then why is everything else being characterized as Islam.

Serious answers only. Do your research before you answer and I dont mean just looking at one website that portrays Islam as a hateful religion but read books..be biased.

I'm a 31 year old man who is sick and tired of feeling intimidated by aggressive people. Physically I have the appearence of a strong man, but mentally and emotionally I feel like a dog with his tail between his legs. People (particularly aggressive people) can suconsciously pick up on this, and use it to walk all over me, knowing that I'm too scared to empower myself and stand up against their oppression. I DONT WANT TO LIVE LIKE THIS ANY MORE!!!!. What can I do about this? Is there anyone out there who can really REALLY help me? Living like this is like living in a self-imposed prison, and it's a nightmare! I don't want to become a bully, I just want to feel GENUINELY empowered and able to take care of myself when I need to. I don't want to be anyone's doormat NO MORE!! Someone, somewhere show me the way please!!!
