Is it fair that all Muslims have to suffer because of extremists...??

Whatever the extremists are doing around the world is cruel and inhumane and it disturbs me as a Muslim as much as it disturbs everyone else. But why do people generalize as all Muslims being like that? Why do people think that Islam preaches that?

Don't they read about rapes, murders, kidnappings in the West every day. Columbine, Oklahoma City bombings, Sniper attacks...nobody characterizes those to any religion then why is everything else being characterized as Islam.

Serious answers only. Do your research before you answer and I dont mean just looking at one website that portrays Islam as a hateful religion but read books..be biased.

Minority Muslims do protest..the media does not show that. The media chooses to show what the extremists are doing in the name of religion.

I agree that Muslims extremists don't represent the entire religion, but to answer your question:

The reason people think this is two reasons:

- They associate their attacks in the name of Islam
- They are the "loudest" Muslims. They are the ones we see and hear from

First, few if any people who we hear about daily justify their murders, kidnappings, bombings, etc. on their religion. We don't see people being beheaded in the name of Christianity (anymore), or suicide bombing a building of innocents because a Chrisitan Community doesn't like an outside nation.

Of course not all Muslims are this way, but look at what is being shown to the US:

- Leaders of Muslim nations, insisting that their country be Muslim and death to America and Isreal!
- Suicide bombings against "Enemys of Islam"
- Kidnappings in the name of Islam, where the victim is either murdered or must swear to Islam before release
- Riots and murders because "Islam has been called violent" by cartoons or by the pope

The peaceful side of Islam is rarely shown to us because the violent side is a) so abundent in the Middle East and b) makes for better news.

I think that Muslim extremists are portrait as the "hero's" of Islam.. This makes people view Islam as a hateful religion. I for one can't understand why Muslim moderates won't stand up against the extremists. It's so easy to moan about people being biased against Muslims, but really if u guys can't control the followers this kind of attitude u receive won't go away. Many innocent people have lost their lives because of Muslim extremists, that is a fact no matter how u look at it it's evil. So stop preaching on a website and start doing something. I'm sure the moderates outnumber the extremists..

It is not the fact that people are generalizing, but the fact is that all religion commits murder whether christians jews, or muslims but the point is that those people are not commiting crimes based on their religion, they commit crimes because they are morons or crazy but not because their prophet told them to attack the infidels, that is what the muslims will never understand and they will still claim that Islam is a religion of peace, and that other religion kill as well but to the world they will always be portrayed as criminals, because terrorist will always bomb in the name of Islam. If you are so concerned why don't you people try to educate the jihads they are also part of Islam, then the world will see that you Islamics are trying to help in anyway ye can, the answer you are not going to find it here on yahoo answers, the solution is to organize groups that protest such violent behaviors.

So who do you think is Extremists, They are muslims too, their faith are base on Al Quran. If you think most muslim are different than the Extremists. Why dont most of you stand up and make your voice clear that they are not Islam but you cannot because they are not bad or sick people like the sniper attack, etc. They are good muslim base on the Al Quran. My church back in Indonesia have been burn down when we are praying and praise our God. Do you want to say they are extremist, I am just say they are what they are because your religion teach them so. Do you see any mosque have been burn down, force to close, explore in Europe or Western country ???, Do you see any Imam and beleiver got Kill while they are praying in the Mosque in Europe or Western Country ???

In Muslim Country there are many church or other religion place have been force to close, burn down, damage and bomb with no reason. There are many other beleiver also the leader that are different than Islam have been kill, torture, harrash, threat.

Until now there is many muslim country that are not allow church or other religion to be build ????, it is that because of the extremist also ????? Please stop blame every thing that bad to extremist and stop spread the lie.

Islam here is different that Islam in the middle east. I personally know people that have grown up in the middle east and Islam there focuses on "sweeping out the infidel" which they consider america and christians. They are literally taught to hate in the schools. Taught to hate so radically that they suicide bomb, that they do not care about the consequences. They are taught to be cruel and hard. People have died over there for having 1 page of the Bible. It is not allowed. so yes there is random crime in the west and a lot of it. But, it is different. Random vs. life's purpose. And over there, there has never been peace. ever. it is a little comparable to the "christians" that bomb abortion clinics. I know muslim people that do not understand either. But, it is different in that culture over there Islam is not the same as you see it here. And, there claim their actions in the name of Islam and Allah

When a person says that Muslim fundamentalists who behead people and detonate suicide bombs in the name of Islam should be stopped, why is the nearly universal response from Muslims "Not all Muslims are like that! Islam is a religion of peace!" ?

Wouldn't a better response be "I agree! Let's find a way to stop them together!" ?

I do not agree that some verses of Al-Qur'an need to be rewritten or removed. We do not have the right to mess with God's word. The passages is Al-Qur'an which deal with violence and warfare are always followed by verses dealing with forgiveness. For example, Al-Qur'an says that if someone does you harm, you may do equal harm to them, but not more. However, it is always better to forgive.
The verses in Al-Qur'an which deal with violence and warfare were guidelines for early muslims on how to defend themselves and survive as a community. Extremists don't seem to understand that. They read passages concerning warfare and that's where they stop reading. They don't contemplate on the meaning of those verses, nor do they read the verses preaching mercy and forgiveness. Violence is only allowed for defence, but peaceful solutions are always preferable. Those extremists have their own interpretation of those verses, using them as an excuse to attack first. They believe that what they are doing will make Allah happy. They will be surprised to find themselves in Hell when they die, for Allah does not love violence and hatred.

The term Jihad is also often (almost always) misinterpreted. It is not a holy war, but a struggle for Allah's case. This can take the form of education (teaching each other, muslims as well as non-muslims, about Islam), dialogue, etc..., but the biggest and hardest struggle takes place within one's self. Jihad in the sense of holy war can also exist, but only if a muslim community is under threat and needs to defend itself.

Black people are viewed the same way. It's a sad world. When things like Columbine and snipers happen those people are categorized as non-Christians. Some people disasociated those people from themselves, but when it comes to other people one person's action define an entire religion or ethnicity.The minds of ignorant people isn't rational.

What you are misunderstanding is that Muslims are not being attacked. We are all just trying to make them understand that few verses in their holy book must be re-visited, acknowledged and permanently removed. All Muslims must gather and make this happen!
I have Muslim friends that are wonderful people and they sure as heck don't go around killing people. The extremists must be stopped by other Non-violent Muslims.
