yes...especialy biblical ones are largely obsolete.
But one can learn from ancient civilizations. Ancient Polynesians are fascinating to me, especialy their family and sex lives. They were very peaceful. Sex was free and open to all. There was no marriage. Kids belonged to the whole tribe. Food and work was shared. Why can't we live like that?

I think that there are far too few people who have a clue about ancient things. We are standing around making the same mistakes that millions have made over millennia and are clueless. Sure there are those with their head "back there" in historic lessons, but for evey one you point to like that I'll show you eight or nine that are either clueless to the world beyond their reach or to the world before their birth. You can see it right here in this forum when they keep asking the same questions fourty times a day.

Are you talking about Euclidian geometry?
Yes, people are clearly governed too much by Euclid's ancient theories, concepts, and beliefs.

Perhaps in some cases we allow ourselves to place too much importance on the past. However, I believe for the most part we should not toss away the wisdom of those who have gone before us. We can learn from their mistakes and their sucesses too.

In my opinion, if religion were flexible we would be trying to relate it to science.
Do you know anything about quantum physics? Me neither.
We've discovered that beneath the atomic level of atoms, the sub atomic is made of nothing but strands of energy that define/determine the make up of the physical world.
Imagine if we could seriously look at that and ask if that is indeed what God is? The answer could be no, could be yes, but at least we could ask.

And just because it is ancient, what it makes it more valid for today?

If you do not know where you come from you cannot possibly know yourself. But I guess people should take what they know and apply it to modern times.
