This is called the "arrogance of the collective." It's nothing more than a sect-centric stance that says: "If you don't think like we do, then there are profound deficiencies in your life." And all you'll hear is blah, blah, blah - not one iota of anything but "X is love," or "Y is knowledge," etc.
However, when you get to the nuts and bolts of it, you find that in fact their divorce rates, propensity to violence, etc., do NOT indicate any greater love. (Actually, on that account, preliminary numbers seem to be in favor of the LESS religious.)
"God is love" is a slogan used by many whose next sentence might well be to tell you that you deserve to suffer in hell for all eternity if you don't accept their "loving God."

God is Love.
I once told an atheist/alcoholic lost miserable person I truly & completely loved this:
"To doubt God is to doubt love, and to doubt love is to doubt me."
I am 37, I only found MY personal relationship with Him within the last several years, I am so happy now and see the every day blessings in my life.

Because in their ignorance of evolution, they fail to realize that love is little more than a sensation and set of behaviors regulated by the brainstem, not even our higher cognitive functions. This is why love doesn't respond to reason -- it is primal and instinctive.
Love is an emergent behavior of the brain, nothing more. But they think it needs to be more than that somehow to be valuable, instead of valuing it as it is.

Because only an advanced Soul is capable of true, i.e. unconditional, love. And because God is the most advanced Soul of all, he is capable to love most.
You need not know God personally. If you know what love is and how to love, you have God in your heart, and God loves you.
God is not intersted in religious claims, he is interested in the purity of our hearts.

It is called "agape" love. It goes deeper than we can ever try to love on our own. To truly love like God did. Like Jesus did. To give your own life to the undeserving. It is to be a servant. And to have perfect motive.

God is Love! And he who abides in love, abides in God, and God in him!
As someone put it: Love (and I don't mean sex!!) is the answer - whatever the question!
Why not try it and judge for yourself by the results?
