What is the main reason for you believing that there is a god?

Serious question. Is there one specific event or thing that has happened to yourself to make you believe there is a god?

Do people who haven't read the bible or don't count themselves as religious believe in there being a god?

I am shocked how many people in the parenting section quote the Bible to justify corporal punishment of their children. Are there any religious Christians out there who have a different view of this?
I live in Germany and I really get confused with what I find on this website. There are not many devout Christians in Germany and corporal punishment of children is not at all socially accepted here. Is this really a teaching of Christianity or just an excuse of parents who don't know how to raise their kids in different way?
I know that it is written in the Bible, but the Bible says many things that Christians nowadays don't follow.

Has anyone else noticed that people have started rolling out the paper towels at the basin so the next person using them doesn't have to touch the dispenser? It's very odd to me. Doesn't that expose the paper to all the germs in the area rather than keeping them clean and "behind the scene"?

Many western women hit gym whereas in the east gym culture is not prevalent. 5 ft 6 inch and 145 lbs is common measurement among western women. But many eastern men are thinner. Does anyone know or has experience about this?

Hi..I'm an 18 year-old girl and currently studying in college. It's killing me rite now to keep this feeling inside so i'm gonna confess it here..I was raised single-handedly my my mom for da past 3 years..I guess that made me more exposed to a woman's life and their way of thinking..I had a couple of failed relationship with men, however i have nothing against them..Early this year,I met this girl at work while waiting for my exam results..After I stoppd working I realised how much I missed her and I truly cared about her more than anyone else. She's just an average 21 year-old but to me she's beautiful inside-out..I tried stopping myself from loving her but coz I act like a fool whenever I miss her, even in front of her..I also had a rough time focusing on my studies as my mind is constantly thinking of her..Every second, every day..Please,I know this is wrong, I'd never expected anything like this to happen to me..Is there a way to make this forbidden love stop??

There are a few things known to man, that provide a fantastic sense of clarity in the mind or spirit. There's love, fornication, certain foods, drink or drugs.. And of course there's poetry, music, other forms of art, and the inspiration from anything that challenges your current world view. Certain newspaper articles could even do that, for example. Others need travel or extreme sports to refresh their spirits.

Any of the above are wrong in the church, on different levels. Could that be because people need to be dumb to have faith? Could world peace then become a reality if next door to every congegration, we'd open an EasyPeace den, where poets and artists orate poetry and brilliant columns, accompagnied by live music and other artistry, while the audience drink dandelion wine, absynth and whiskies, smoke cannabis, have great sex and free travel passes or skydiving vouchers at the exit?

I very occasionally have this happen to me and at first I was frightened, but when it happens now, its quite a strange but pleasurable feeling:-

When i'm really tired and I end of falling asleep but I know I need to stay away (usually on the sofa, during the day), I start to dream as per usual and my body/muscles switch off as per normal sleep routine. I am then semi-consious and still aware of the fact that I am on a sofa falling asleep. I can open my eyes and see the room around me, but I can't move my body as it has gone into sleep mode. I can then either just close my eyes again and drift deeper loosing consiousness as per normal sleep or tell myself to count to three and shake myself awake. When I do this, I can feel a massive surge of energy/warmth as my body comes back 'on' again and I'm fully awake again. I can feel the energy working its way through my body (takes a few seconds) - like i'm 'turning on' again. Are our bodies just mechanisms for our souls?....

I am 55 years old, married with one son, aged 25, employed and living separately.

I wake up at 6 in the morning. At 6:30, I am out with my bicycle for a 45 minutes vigorous ride to the beach and back home.

At 8, I have the second cup of tea of the day and go through two newspapers.

I have my shower at 8:45 and breakfast at 9:00.

I work from home, and I am at my desk at 9:15

At 1:00 I have my lunch and lie down for 30 minutes reading news paper. A short while later, I doze off.

After a half hour siesta, I have my tea and am back at my desk at 3:00 PM.

I work until 6:00 and then I go to a near by swimming pool for a 45 minute vigorous swim.

At 7:30 in the evening, I begin to have my whisky on my bedroom balcony. My wife and I talk about the day during that time. I also make a few phone calls to my friends.

By 10:00, I have had 240 ml of whisky, I am reasonably tipsy and have my dinner. At 10.30 I am off to sleep. Thanks to the whisky, the moment I put my head on the pillow, I go off to sleep.

I seldom watch TV.

On Wednesdays, I go to my Rotary Club meeting. After the meeting, I drink with my fellow Rotarians and discuss mainly politics.

Once a week, I meet my friends – one is a doctor and other is a professor - over a drink and come back home in time to go to sleep.

I used to go to my club twice a week, but now I don’t go much because I do not find the conversation there interesting. I find being with my wife more enjoyable.

I do not like travelling.

I have a beautiful garden, and gardening is my hobby. It gives me great happiness.

I enjoy good health.

Now, what would you call this sort of lifestyle, boring or interesting?
