Their enmity originated eons ago even though both religions have so many things in common. They both assert the existence of Moses and Abraham. They both claim Jerusalem to be holy. They both have similar form of greeting (shaloum and salam). What started the rift?

Muslims believe they have the rightful ownership of the Holy Land, as they believe they are descended from Ishmael, the son of Abraham and his concubine Hagar. Jews believe they have the truthful claim to ownership to the Holy Land, as they believe they're descended from Isaac, the son of Abraham and Sarah. Islam claims that the Jews corrupted the Torah after it was given to them by God. Judaism claims Muhammed wasn't a prophet. The rift started when the Jews living in Medina and Mecca rejected Muhammed and his teachings. He then set out telling his new followers, whom he called Muslims, to not have Jews and Christians as friends. He put this in the Qur'an. Lots of Jews were killed by Muslims and Christians during the Crusades.

A good question, especially since the Qur'an recognizes Jews as being People of the Book. It appears that Islam has gotten more than a bit distorted from what Muhammad was preaching.

It all started when the state of Israel came into being before that there was no such enmity. Even now there is no such enmity between these two religions. It’s the war between Israel and Palestine u can say sort of political and not religious one

Muslims have been too kind to Jews - giving them a home when they were ousted from Spain and more recently sharing of Palestine after WW2. Look at how the Jews have paid them back!

Pushing out Jews from Europe to the Middle East and the constant attempts by the Jews to increase their land gains made all its neighbors under threat. Jews have already attacked Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and with the USA's biased support no one knows who comes next, but it is certain that the next in line will be unjustifiably doomed.

i think because we both clam to be the chosen ones by god.and also it says in the quran that Allah has punished the Jews because they were the chosen ones by god but then they disobeyed so they had that status taken away from them.and Allah and told the Jews the coming of prophet Muhammad(pbuh) and he told them to follow him but when they realized he wasn't a Jew that's when they went against god commands and didn't follow the command by god to drop the torah and follow the quran.

This goes back to history. Each religion has it's own account of wat happened in the days of the prophets. If you're a muslim, you'll understand. If not, you can ask a muslim or find out for yourself.
