I'm a sales manager and every day i'm faced with people that are rude or nasty just for the sake of it? don't get me wrong, there's loads of great people out there but why do people take their bad days out on someone whose just providing them a service? anyone else have this problem.... or maybe you are one of those nasty people and you can explain why?

This is a really good question.. I wish some of the rude people would answer it and give some reason to all if their actions, a little understanding goes a long ways.

My husband works with the service industry, and there is a real difference in the way people act when they are paying for a service, there is the occasional jerk that thinks whatever his/her money is buying.. it is never enough for his hard earned dollar, and those types seem to never really be appreciative of the service given.

I think maybe sometimes when people are having a bad day, and they are pent up with frusterations, they give that frusteration to someone they don't know as apposed to resolving the frusteration with whoever or whatever they are really upset about. It pacifies their need to vent, even if it's in the wrong direction.

Sometimes it is just ignorance, they haven't a clue what service is about, so they mistreat it as an expectation to be doted on no matter how they act.

I prefer to think of unhappy people as secret shoppers for kindness and understanding.. Maybe these people have had a bad experience from this same type of service before, and their expectations are lowered in their minds whenever they are back in the similar situation, not that the person they are dealing with now has any reason to be faulted, but they are.

Every now and then, it gets old and you feel the need to tell someone they are acting inappropriate.. and that may happen on the 100th time someone treated you rude, but it's a bit built up from the 99 times before.

If ur talking about the UK then its because there a lack of sunnyness. Notice that ppl in hotter countries generally tend to be more happy. When its sunny....(not too hot though) people actually SMILE....can u believe it!

Also what kind of sales are you in? if its telesales then its most prob because its soooooo annoyin! There was a time when i got at least 5 calls a day askin if i wanted a nu phone. Ok they can ask, but when u've said u hav a nu phone already and they r still trying to make u buy sumthing u don't want then it gets a little irritating.

Unfortunitely more and more people today are of the mind set
horay for me and the hell with you !!!
I refuse to buy into it . No matter how nasty I just smile and say I hope you have a great day or something . That seems to catch them off guard , and sometimes makes them think of how rude they were .
It is not as if I am just living in a world all my own . I have worked in a retail store for 30years .
When you are sincere and happy it is dificult for others to be nasty to you , try it !

I work with the public and the problem I find with the few that are rude is they think they are superior to you and look down their noses and think they can talk to you as they like. I've come so close to telling snotty gits to f**k off but have managed to refrain from doing so up until now but the day will come and I'll probably get the sack.

It depends whether the sales staff are cold calling people, which usually catches them when they're busy, hence the anger. I'm usually polite, but firm. Mind you, I've had jobs working with the public and I agree with you - they're so rude!

For some reason those sort of people think its there god given right to be down right nasty to others, there is no excuse for their attitudes and no allowances should be made for them, common courtesy works no matter what you mood.
