Despite the fact there there is scant evidence for aliens, many, including the late Isaac Asimov, believed in aliens. What kind of rationale is behind this? Is is a suppressed spiritual longing not to be alone in the universe?

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died
peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.

They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

Shut up. You know it's funny.

I have seen a lot of religious people get annoyed when atheists etc reply to religious questions in the religion section of this website. They don’t think that they should as they do not share the same mindset as religious people.
If this is true, then should religious people be limited to the religion forum where they can indulge their fairy tales and leave the real questions to people who are able to think independently?

Many years ago, I had an embarrassing experience in which I really needed to pee. Just as I was about to go to the bathroom, the phone rang. No one else was around to answer it, and since I didn't have caller ID, I didn't know if the call was important. Unfortunately, my bladder was about to give way, so out of desperation, I decided to take the phone to the bathroom. I thought to myself that maybe the person on the other end wouldn't hear the tinkle. Boy was I wrong! The caller turned out to be a telemarketer, and I could tell that she knew that I was in the bathroom by the awkward tone in her voice. However, if there is an upside to this, she was quick to cut the call short. It was still embarrassing, though.

The question is:
Who is doing the experiencing?
Yesterday I thought this up and will try to explain it.
If "Now" can be considered eternal, is the state of "now" always where I am currently in?
Then if I remember yesterday, I bring it into the now.
So the life I had up until yesterday was just a story I told myself today.

The deep part of it-
If we are telling (or singing) our stories to god and god can absorb our entire knowledge and experience.

So am I currently existing as myself in my life experience or am I the re-enactment god is experiencing as we tell him the story?

So if we substitue the term god for myself in the now, and my previous knowledge and experience as yesterday, the growth creates a sense of time, although, I needed the sense of time, to measure the growth.

Makes me think of this song, please any help or comments, or anything. Even if you cannot answer the question, or need me to elaborate, I just want to know if this sounds ridiculous.

Every word of The Bible is true. We know every word of The Bible is true...because The Bible says every word of The Bible is true.

How ridiculous.

Faith is believing in something without proof of it actually existing. Just because you give it a nice word to define it - you're still choosing to accept something that someone says, without questioning why. If you read a novel or a work of fiction, and someone then told you it was true - you wouldn't just believe it would you? Why are you selective in what you believe on blind faith?

If I invented a religion tomorrow (With the motive of making money and controlling less intelligent people with it) - and you waited a thousand years, would it be so indistinguishable and untraceable back in history that people would blindly believe that too?

Please grow up people.

I love wearing my strap-on's everywhere I go. I wear them to go out and eat, as well as to the grocery store and to just go do everyday shopping. I wear them around the house all the time as well. They are the most comfortable sandals I have owned. Those velcro staps adjust to where they fit my feet comfortably and I would rather wear them than any other shoe.

An agnostic posted yesterday about how this was the best argument for Christianity he's ever heard of.

He pointed out how the disciples of Jesus were willing to give up everything they had in order to spread the message and truth they had witnessed. Most of them even eventually died for it.

He then rebuked it by saying many people die for their religion. But I think there is a key difference in this case. The disciples had NOTHING to gain from their sacrifice. They knew their salvation only came from the Lord and that there was no greater reward for them in Heaven because of their actions. So why did they go out to proclaim the gospel? These people actually witnessed the events then spent their lives suffering and dying so that others would know the truth. Why would anyone die for something they knew to be a lie?

Different from soldiers and suicide bombers for two reasons
They were there to witness the events so they would know if it was a lie.
No extra reward in heaven
