What streets? McKenna Blvd and Raymond Rd. are pretty nice streets, if you don't mind the constant din of sirens from the fire department down the road...

Oh yes they are.
Look around you.
Of course we aren't talking about the rich areas where the police take care of any little altercation because the inhabitants are rich and therefore shouldn't have to put up with these things but for the rest of the normal society its put up with it or move house.
Before people could walk on the streets without be harassed by groups of hooligans for nothing.
The streets are now paved with groups of alcos or yobbos, the walls are covered with senseless graffiti and the streets are littered with bottles are papers or used condoms are whatever else people can't be bothered putting in a bin.
The world has become a horrible dangerous place.
Something needs to be done but this can only be changed by a more strict police service and a better government.
Of course we cannot forget the useless parents who allow their kids to wander the streets and therefore pick up the bad habits without any guidance.
I could go on forever but I'm sure you know all this already.
Do you live in a nice area?
Maybe that's the reason for your question!!

Kids DO go around in gangs, kids DO carry knives and kids DO cause mischief and mayhem. However, not all kids fall into these categories. Do not ever walk around looking like you are gonna be the next 'victim'. Have a bit of common sense, don't go where you do not know and are unfamiliar with, stick to lighted areas, walk with a few others(safety in numbers). It can be dangerous out there, just use a bit of 'common' and you should be o.k.
Carry some sort of alarm, don't flash your jewellery or flash phone, don't flash the cash.
Non of these suggestions are foolproof, but will give you a better chance of survival on our 'mean streets'.

No. The media are in the pockets of the politicians. If the media create a moral panic about such things then the Government can pass more laws circumscribing the rights of its citizens and no one (with any real power) will challenge them. It works every time, with immigration, the "undeserving" poor, the chavs, the yobs, the terrorists etc.

It depends on who you listen to. By the way the media talks, you'd think if you went into downtown Baltimore that there would be hordes of people just waiting to kill you when you got out of your car. I've lived in big cities and I've never had an issue. I'm careful though, which I think is a must, but I don't feel scared when I'm out and about at night.

There is plenty of violence, but the media has it backwards. The homeless are victims from the so called 'normal' people. Homeless get robbed more than those who have a place to go, they are not always given their rights when they do deserve to be arrested, and they seldom get early release for good behavior. They are spit on by our 'upstanding' citizens, but can't press assault charges and generally are not treated like human beings.

1 in 12 people in Dallas will be the victim of violent crime in the next year. We have concealed carry laws here and I am glad for it. I for one stay out of Dallas completely unless I go to a concert or something. Other than that, too dangerous to be in.

depending where you are in the world... come too Bolton U.K.
Where gangs kids beat you up and stamp on your head for not giving them a cigarette, or getting alcohol from shops... nearly every night youths get arrested for a wide array of Affrays... Yes in bolton the kids argue it's for protection... all to often used to intimidate... punishing parents is the wrong way to go about it, coz most of these kids don't give a damn about there parents, and visa versa...

Sad world we live in... so sad!

I wish You well in life... don't get sucked into the bad stuff!

Peace!

It depends on what streets you are referring to. If it's the high street in the local village then possibly no. If it's the streets of some large city then possibly yes.
