Because there were sinners back then and we continue to sin now. It's everlasting mercy and forgiveness so that we all have the opportunity to take advantage of his neverending love. Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for the world and the generations to come after our ancestors. God has a perfect plan and that was just the beginning of that plan to let us have new life in Christ, through his death.

God is not confined to time because He is eternal. Christ (God in the flesh) died for the sins of the whole world, past, present and future. The Good News is that even if a born again believer fails, he/she is covered by The Blood of The Lamb. Death passes over (Passover) the believer.

As the God-Man, the life of Jesus was more valuable than that of all the rest of us put together. Therefore, His Sacrifice covers all of our sins. Think of it as a bank account. It doesn't matter that the account was filled 2000 years ago. The money is still available. In fact, that was the reason for the OT blood sacrifices. They were a 'credit card' system to cover those who died before the account was filled.

Christ's sacrifice is eternal, it's outside of time. The fact that we were born 2000 yrs after the fact is no constraint for God. See Revelation 13:8, and also the fifth chapter of Revelation.

So from that point on if you wanted to be back in Gods favor all you do is repent in his name for your sins because before Jesus came you would sacrafise animals and things of that nature. He made it easier to get back on good terms with God. Who cares if it was 2000 years ago. When the phone was made I'm sure he didn't have any of us in mind but we use it now and he made it easier to connect with people over long distances.

Because it was a sacrifice made once for all. He was innocent blood shed. He truly did absolutely nothing to deserve crucifying. Up until him... there had to be a sacrifice every year. There was no way to completely atone for your sin. Once he came as it was predicted in the messianic prophecies... He was the only sacrifice needed. He did enough suffering for all of us. All he asks is that we accept that he died so we could go to heaven. That we accept him. And then he does our interceding. without him there is no direct connection to God.

That's a good question...the answer is that God accepts THAT sacrifice (Jesus Christ) at the cross for the sin of all mankind for all ages.

The way to God's mercy is now open for ALL.

Because the penalty of sin is death, but if you haven't sinned, and yet you die, death has no right to hold you in the tomb, and yet the sin debt is paid for. After that God can be just to pardon anyone who places faith in that perfect sacrifice.
