I, as an American, say "a-LOO-min-um". Now I live in Ireland, and European people seem to say "al-yoo-MIN-ee-um"? Can someone please explain where the 4th syllable comes from, as the word is spelled aluminum? I'm not trying to be rude, just genuinely curious...

I was led to believe that you had to be living on the streets or in a homeless shelter to be able to sell the big issue, is this correct?

How much money do these people earn? there is a man in my town who lives in Manchester and travels the 25 miles by bus (£5 return from my town) to sell the big issue magazine, I can't afford to go to Manchester by bus once a week never mind up to 6 times a week...

So can someone explain to me how this can be?

i recently got "laid off" at my job, well.. it wasnt so much me getting fired or anything it was just that i had a "testing time" where they'd see how hard i worked and theyd pretty much decide whether they wanted to hire me for another period of time. So this morning i went to work as always and after a couple of mins my boss springs up to me and says he wants to talk to me about my performance review and he basically said that i wasnt good enough apparently so we decided to end ''it'' on really good terms he said bye n i left now im gonna have to find another job and i have NO frickin' idea of what im gonna do with the rest of my life (thats in a nutshell, so dont take it like im loser or anythin'). How do you think i should try to find my way back in to reality and society (im 21 by the way) and really find my place in the friggin world?... ps. i got a whole lot of things i wanna do, im just confused about which one to choose, thats all. thanks and sorry for the long story!

If you are excluded from school, you are enticed back with incentives like scuba diving lessons and other attractive and exciting things. Yet kids who work hard and behave get nothing. The same with help and assistance, if you are an ex-offender, drug addict or other anti-social person, you can get assistance and financial support to get qualifiactions or start a business, but someone who has 'conformed' to social standards gets nothing and has to struggle on their own. where is the incentive to be an honest, hard working model of society? It seems to me that in this country you get on in life if you don't behave and conform to social norms? You may be forgiven for thinking that I have had this happen to me, but I haven't. I have however, worked in the arenas of economic development and urban regeneration.

O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
