i recently got "laid off" at my job, well.. it wasnt so much me getting fired or anything it was just that i had a "testing time" where they'd see how hard i worked and theyd pretty much decide whether they wanted to hire me for another period of time. So this morning i went to work as always and after a couple of mins my boss springs up to me and says he wants to talk to me about my performance review and he basically said that i wasnt good enough apparently so we decided to end ''it'' on really good terms he said bye n i left now im gonna have to find another job and i have NO frickin' idea of what im gonna do with the rest of my life (thats in a nutshell, so dont take it like im loser or anythin'). How do you think i should try to find my way back in to reality and society (im 21 by the way) and really find my place in the friggin world?... ps. i got a whole lot of things i wanna do, im just confused about which one to choose, thats all. thanks and sorry for the long story!

wow man, you still have your whole life ahead of you. you're young, enjoy it. look for a job, sure, but don't be so serious about everything your just becoming an adult and that takes time. you need to sit down and decide where you wanna be a few years from now and go from there. there's no need for you to rush yourself in adulthood and fret over one job. i'm you'll have ten more before you fnd out what's right for you. do your thing man. take it easy.

I can only go on what I'd do in the same situation.

I'd examine what it was that I lacked to be able to keep that job. I'd pray and thank God that He's going to give me an even better job and ask for His guidance in making a good choice for the next one.

If I didn't know what I wanted to do, had no burning passion to become an oceanographer or an astronaut lol, then I'd go to a temporary agency and work several jobs to see what came up that I liked. At the very least you'd have incoming money right away.

Or you could write down all the things you want to do on little pieces of paper, put a spot of glue on your nose, throw the papers in the air and see which one sticks lol. Either way, better get to work, times a'wasting!

You are 21.
Its not the end of the world. You got "Laid Off" and you have a good reference from your old employer. What happens next has a lot to do with what you do, who you know. and how hard you are willing to work for it. I would look at it like an Internet search engine. The more you narrow your job search requirements the less you will have to choose from. Then you have the balance of free time off verses salary. I was a cop for a while because that is what I thought i wanted and I hated every minute of it. So I utterly abandoned myself to GOD and asked him for a job that would be exactly what I "needed" not wanted. It worked. I have been at my new job for a year now and love it. I wouldn't have picked it though.

GOD bless ya

Just breathe! Look at what interests you now, see if there isn't some kind of employment where you can do what you like. Many people today have had several "careers". Most companies no longer have lifetime workers. I've had probably 4 "careers". Even if you have to work a job to earn money now, but take some classes to better educate yourself for a better job in the future. Nothing comes easy unless you were born into money. It will work out. hugs

First get a job anywhere (fastfood) you dont want to loose ur place if u live alone. Next start looking for another job in which u know u can function (give 100% @ work b/c work=bread). Make decisions, for me im working and im making the decision of not spending money even if im broke, ill pay my bills and save the rest, im going to school but as soon as im done with school I'll have alot of extra money and I'll have a good job so that I can start living how I like. Make rules and goals now so that later u can succeed in what ever u want. & take it easy, Good Luck

Been there. Yet all is not lost. Keep up the job search. Send out resumes. I don't know your education, but even drop outs can land good jobs. I've been on a job for over 10 years now and go from day to day wondering if I will be the next on the chopping block.

Don't dispair there are jobs out there that can use your talents. Don't be afraid to look for something new and different. Sometimes it is the best thing.

I would pick what you are best at ,what you really enjoy doing(that you can work legally doing, lol.) and start from there. If you get a job doing something you really like, you'll be more successful at it. plus you won't be bored with it easily. Going to college would also be an option. Remember you're still young, too. You have time to discover what it is you like. Don't be too hard on yourself that you don't have it all figured out yet, I know alot of people alot older than you that still don't know what they want from life Good luck!!.

I agree with jay d. Think about where you would like to be 10 yrs from now and then think of what would you have to do from now till then to get there. Then start doing that. This has happened for a reason. Not to give you no hope, but to set you free from one job so you can be available for a better one. Good Luck, I know it will work out for you. You obviously have heart!

I'm 40 and I was laid off several times when I was younger. And guess what-the world didn't end for me. Life went on. I went to university, studied for a degree and found a new career path. All you can do is take the disappointment on the chin, pick yourself up and carry on, hopefully a little wiser than you were before.

First of all quit being so hard on yourself. I firmly believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe you could go to the unemployment office and see one of the career coordinators, they can ask you questions and tell you what job best sounds like it would fit you. At 21 you'll still have many doors open to you. This to will pass, so no worries, just let it go and move on ok?
