Because of the promises?

A better life after the terrestrial life.
To meet again the dear departed.
The eternal salvation.
Paradise.
Virgins of the Allah's paradise (in fact it's mistranslation; Koran promises only white fruits or dry grapes).

By fear?

The pangs of death, the existential anguish.
Hell promised to those who are not good believers.
To face our ignorance: To explain what we do not know by a divine intervention makes possible to calm the anxiety generated by the questions without answers.
In period of distress and misfortune, to believe in something which exceeds us, may bring comfort.

As atheists, we get accused of being idiots,Satan worshippers, “bigots”(http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoweRCKv779J28fiUtlzSEHsy6IX?qid=20060912121923AAXpuVI , and god knows what else! However one question asked if as atheists, we were more intellectual. Many said that because we weren’t “Brainwashed” that yes, we are smarter than the average Christian; we are educated.

Something happened recently in the news that *MAY* support this point. I’m not saying it does but ….

In this day and age where terrorists are a huge treat – why on EARTH WOULD someone do this?!?! It’s incomprehensible!

Not a very smart moment in the religious world don’t you agree?

Every religion I have read about is sexist. Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism...
how can any self respecting female support what they say about us?
In the old testament it says that when a woman has her period she is unclean and must be segregated from the main family ( they say we are unlean - LIKE PIGS!!!!)
Even the Buddha says that when a monk asks a nun for her daily food that she has begged for she has to give it to him, but not the other way round.
I'm not gonna bother with Islam we all know what they think of women....
Pretty much all religions agree that we are either the property of our father or husband or failing that our sons!!

Hi,

I am curious about this spanking thing. I am talking about an adult nonsexual spanking. How can I find someone to spank me without having to worry about the persons bad intentions. I want to be safe, but I have decided that I NEED a spanking.

I am totally screwing up my life and think that a spanking or two could get me back on track. I do not want to be beaten, but could use a good old fashion spanking. You know the kind that children get when they are growing up, nothing sexual.

I think that the best way to start would be hand on butt. I have no interest in getting it anywhere else, but am open to getting a paddle or a belt if I have done something really bad.

If anyone has information on this or wants to share something...I am listening.

Is this strange? I would also like this service for free.

By the way I am a white female.

If you believe that "fossil" fuel like oil can be created in only thousands of years,
Why would it be a "limited" resource?
If it took such a short period to produce, wouldn't that mean it would be continuously produced and wouldn't be considered "limited"?

Perhaps creationists would like to change oil from limited to unlimited.
Gee, you ever wonder if fossils can be created in only 50 years, why we don't have so much oil it would never run out?

I was thinking that because of the way my life has turned out at present, what would my life be like now if I had made a different decision then.
The decision I made in the past was instead of going into the army, I opted to go to bible school and just recently found out that it was a cult that I was sucked into! So I spent 33 years in it! I am free of it and picking up the pieces of my life. What's done is done and I am just going forward with my life.

The other thing is that I could have been a hair model.

What other path would you have taken if you had that choice to go back and do so.

The worst feature of the Christian religion, is its attitude toward sex -- an attitude so morbid and so unnatural that it can be understood only when taken in relation to the sickness of the civilized world at the time the Roman Empire was decaying. We sometimes hear talk to the effect that Christianity improved the status of women. This is one of the grossest perversions of history that it is possible to make. Women cannot enjoy a tolerable position in society where it is considered of the utmost importance that they should not infringe a very rigid moral code. Monks have always regarded Woman primarily as the temptress; they have thought of her mainly as the inspirer of impure lusts. The teaching of the church has been, and still is, that virginity is best, but that for those who find this impossible marriage is permissible. "It is better to marry than to burn," as St. Paul puts it.

Under the new rules, you can be called a hypocrite for upholding old standards of virtue that you don't exemplify perfectly; but you can't be called a hypocrite for sinking into utter moral squalor, as long as you profess to believe there's nothing wrong with it. So the defender of traditional morality is kept constantly on the defensive, since only he can be accused of hypocrisy.

It's quite a clever system, because it works entirely to the advantage of one side, while the other side has been slow to figure it out. But it boils down to something simple and obvious.

If you set high standards, there is the danger that you'll create an embarrassing gap between what you believe and what you do. The actual may fall short of the ideal; in fact it's almost certain to do so, and you may look hypocritical when you're only human.

But if you profess low standards, there's no danger of such a gap. Your behavior is all too likely to meet your standards. If you openly advocate pedophilia

Not a Bill Cosby advocate but it seems that he does have some valid points at times. Al Sharpton is so jokey to me. I like Senator Obama but he seems ultra conservative at times. Out of these choices or if you know of some others please feel free to mention them, I cannot choose a leader someone's example that I would like to follow or advice that I would heed to. It seems to me in this era of blatant "bushism" we would be clawing tooth and nail to be organizing some kind of moevement but...no. Is the fight over, or have the rules just changed? Or do think that the people who fought so hard for us, did it in vain?

Yes...according to this guy...

""The far right, the religious right are driving moderates out of the party. In the end, that can only hurt because it takes a critical mass to have a successful party," Schwarz said in his first extensive interview since losing the Aug. 8 primary to Tim Walberg.

The Battle Creek physician said several friends told him they plan to leave the party after watching him be hammered on social issues and then lose in spite of endorsements by establishment Republicans including President Bush and Saul Anuzis, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party."

My line of thought is that New York/Washington is the great city that rules the world
Imperial America is the revived Roman empire

I am looking for scholars who support my idea

please post weblinks if you have them, or good ones that can point me to the truth about mystery babylon, not insults

I don't see any revived Roman Empire in the EU as the Left Behind Fiction people think. The prophecy in the bible is always SYMBOLIC never LITERAL. Its MYSTERY BABYLON not BABYLON. If babylon was to be rebuilt then we are no where near the end times.

This is the religion board, I am not interested in politics, patriotism, etc.. so please don't insult me
