"Acting white" has nothing to do with black people. It's not the fact that talking properly is acting white. Oh and what the **** is ghetto. Don't use the word if you can not define it (others on here). You can not knock the way someone grew up or how they were raised. Black people are quick to be called ghetto. Acting White is a term used by some people that does not only mean when a person speaks proper English or not having their pants hanging off their behind, it also mean when someone who is not White, looks down or belittles their own culture's flavor or engage in activities that White people predominately engage in. I have some people accuse me of acting White because I engage in a different culture's activities and don't use slang but for the most part, I have people in my culture that respect that I am taking advantage of what our people fought for and was deprived of when coming to America and that is an education.

majority of ppl believe that talking proper, wearing abercrombie and fitch, american eagle, etc. is being white or acting white. bein into things that typically white ppl are into is considered acting white. having high standards and expensive taste is sometimes considered acting white. living in the surburbs and not speaking alot of slang that is found in inner cities is considered acting white. im a surburbs girl, that has a education that taught me how to speak for my surroundings, which in the corporate world and where i live majority white. i never lived in the inner cities and i dont act like a typical inner city black person so other blacks say i act white or talk white. i prefer to livein the surburbs due to thats what i have been exposed to all my life and other blacks call that bieng white.

Some people think if a non-white person speaks proper english, don't wear their pants hanging off their butt, and don't listen to mainstream rap music. They are 'acting white'. I don't know many people who think like that anymore, there are a few, because I've heard it said about myself a few times, but it's just more ignorance and I dont feed into ignorance.

I'm from the south side of Chicago & being a light-skinned mixed female (16 now) in this part of the country I would get that sometimes. Actin' white is basically talking proper english or sometimes talking like "O my gosh. I'm like (used more than 2x)". I am capable of speaking slang & proper english. My daddy (a black man) & mommy (mixed>>black/puerto rican) refuses for me to even seriously speak slang with them and i'm grateful for that because now-a-days people on the south side of Chicago can't speak proper english at all even if their life depened on it.

Speaking correct English, being educated with ambition, and carrying yourself with a modicum of decorum. I used to be teased by ghetto black people about how I speak but it never bothered me. I had the foresight to know that these people would amount to nothing in life. And I was right!
