As atheists, we get accused of being idiots,Satan worshippers, “bigots”(http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoweRCKv779J28fiUtlzSEHsy6IX?qid=20060912121923AAXpuVI , and god knows what else! However one question asked if as atheists, we were more intellectual. Many said that because we weren’t “Brainwashed” that yes, we are smarter than the average Christian; we are educated.

Something happened recently in the news that *MAY* support this point. I’m not saying it does but ….

In this day and age where terrorists are a huge treat – why on EARTH WOULD someone do this?!?! It’s incomprehensible!

Not a very smart moment in the religious world don’t you agree?

Hmm... you found a Dutch priest who wanted to cancel a Madonna concert... I guess you're right, it logically follows that we must have evolved from slime.

Perhaps some religious people here call atheists idiots, but I see most of it the other direction. Why can't people just stick to issues and discuss them rationally, instead of calling names and posting nonsense?

My Dear,

All the religions. in all systems, in all "churches", face today a very critical situation.
They are all "businesses under Liquidation" and are threaten to "Bankruptcy". So is it very obvious for the "store keepers" you use every known way or invent new ways to make their business float.
The old story of induction fear and the scarecrow of the sin and go to hell, does not bring anymore results. So, the join the modern era. "Terrorism" these days is a threat and everybody pays attention in an info about bombings. Don't be surprised if you see outside of a church a board saying instead of "JESUS LOVES YOU", "BOMB FREE".

Well, his method was definitely flawed. But besides not being smart, more than anything else, it was simply... crazy.

This is why I have a problem with religion. Is it really necessary to threaten people's lives, so that they won't view a form of entertainment that you don't agree with?

From the atheist view, seeing as how there is obviously no god... all we are left with is a foolish old man, with an insane delusion. And he wants to force that delusion on others, by any means necessary. That's the ONLY reason for his phoning in a bomb threat. There was no rational reason for him to do so. This sort of nonsense cannot continue, folks.

i did not read the article, but as a christian and a scientist, i work with some who are below average, average and above average in their fields. then there are the true genius' of the world, in their chosen field(s)....

nobody ever said that smart people cannot do "dumb" things now and then, and some even more often....such as putting your foot in your mouth, whenever you go to make a statement....it happens.

while do believe that it is "dumb" to remain ignorant about God, evolution and religion in general, what i find infuriating, are those non-believers and believers and "tweeners" alike, who simply regurgitate "There is no God..." or "Because God said so..." or "Because it's in the Bible..." etc, etc ad nausem.

give up the rhetoric, learn WHY others disagree with you. in doing so, you can either better prove your point, or realise that you are the one who needs to correct a belief.

The priest was dumb AND ineffective. If anything, more people will want to hear her now. I think he would've kept more people away by spreading the rumor that she was going to sing on key and wear clothes.

Proverbs 12:23
A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness

1 Corinthians 1:18
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Psalm 14
1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

The Christian community will stick together on this one. They look at the cause not the effect. They wear crosses on their necks, clothing, ear lobes, cars, books, on their walls, gardens, in-bed them in their sidewalks and throw them at the "non-believers" like we're vampire that will be destroyed by the very touch of them. For a religion that was founded on love and peace and mercy, we have gotten horrible religious wars, poverty in the masses while the church gets rich, a belief that is only verifiable with one book written hundreds of years after the religion's creation and among their selves there are arguments about what that book means. There is no understanding compassion or reliability to these earth bound TOOLS!

It seems to me that he was very upset of her antics. I am sure that if something were to upset you a lot that you might do something smiler. I am a Christian, and I am very educated, with a very high IQ. You 'brainwashed' atheists are not the only ones that are intelligent.

I guess there are nutbag Fundies all over the world.

You mentioned that atheists are not brainwashed. Just be careful that you don't allow yourself to be brainwashed by the government either (i.e. terrorism).

I find it very odd that you claim to be an atheist and in the same sentence you use the phrase 'and God only knows'.....

That doesn't sound so smart to me.

Edited to add: Well, looks like an atheist would choose another 'saying' perhaps one like 'who knows what else'. That would be the SMART thing to do especially since you are talking about how stupid others are in your question.
