Merlion.
The Merlion from the "Bum
Boat ride."
by K.Knight
Send Photo to a FriendNo words are really required here and I guess every Singapore page has a photo of the Half-fish, half-lion Merlion. They say it is a fitting symbol of Singapore as the "Singa" (lion,) which Prince Sang Nila Utama first caught sight of on the island, was seen near this very spot that the Merlion is situated. Integrating this lion head with the body of a fish was a tribute to Singapore's history as an ancient sea-town.

The Merlion is the lion-headed fish and the symbol of Singapore.
It derives apparently from a legend about the prince who founded Singapore.

In medieval times, it was called a Lyon-Poisson - the name literally means "lion-fish." In Singapore, they have a famous statue of such a creature - they call it a "merlion."

I have conducted lengthy research through all of my available resources and come up with several possible answers for you. As you are probably aware there were thousands and thousands of mythical creatures way back when, and only a few have been recorded as favorites of the kings, pharohs, and so forth. The ones that were not blessed with recognition down through time will soon be lost for all time unless we rekindle fond memories of them.

Leading the exciting list of unnotables are the:

Baracuderamus

Bassquitine

Floundroptilia

Salmoneliacontis

Skaterractile

and the

Zeebrantacacus
