Most people I know don't use it. Don't like it and never will use it. Even from the questions here the majority of black don't use it. Why if you see a few ignorant people d a few ignoratn things you assume a whole race of people follow behind them like children. Get a clue people.

I didn't say all peeople thought this, but I see this question a lot and hear it a lot toward blacks. Why do you call each other "N" word??? But then all the answers I get are because of the movies and the rap music. I mean come on people, I see some pretty idiotic things in predominately white movies, but I don't assume all white people are running out doing the stuff they do on jackass, bumfights, or taledego nights and I don't see all white people dressing like marilyn manson. I mean damn they are movies and music, not reality. Why don't some of you actually talk to black people instead of assuming we all sit around calling each other that derrogatory term.

Because people who are narrow-minded tend to see black people as all being the same. No matter where we live, what our economic status is, the level of our education and a thousand other factors, if we're black, we must use the "N" word.

I never use the word and I never will. I hate hearing other black people use it, because it was created to demean us.

One thing I really dislike about this site is the degree of racial stereotyping you see here. Some people who post here are just racist to the core, which I find disturbing. And, I'm not just talking about racism toward the black race. Feelings of racism can originate from any race. I really believe that if man doesn't learn to live together in peace, we are going to cause our own destruction.

A lot of times your questions come off as overgeneralizations. I'm sure you don't mean this. But I always put "some" in front of it so that my argument won't get smashed.

Now, to answer your question. Not all people think this way. But, you must admit, there are a lot of blacks who use the N word every single day of the week. I don't know where you live but i've heard it in the hair salons, at clubs, bars, movies, malls. From affluent individuals as well as the thugs.

So, I think what we really should be addressing is the fact that ANY black people use this term. Its a copout to say that its a term of endearment or just another way of saying "dude" or "man". Its roots can't be denied. Every time that word is uttered, it throws slavery and the Jim Crow Era right back in the limelight. And the strange thing is, we're calling ourselves N's. How ridiculous is that?

It starts in the household. Parents need to let their children know the history behind that word. My little brothers and sisters would never say the N word and i'm sure they hear it. It's all a matter of upbringing. And just because someone comes from the inner city doesn't mean they have to treat themselves like scum. It is possible to rise above. But calling someone or yourself a N is no place to begin.

I would be glad to see that word disappear from our culture. I am white, but I have hated that word for as long as I live. The hair on my neck stands up and bristles when I hear it.

I think we are suffering from stereotyping from TV. A good number of people only have contact with other groups VIA the TV, which is sad, sad, sad.

I went to church in Georgia this past sunday. I would have thought there would have been more blacks in the congregation, it's Georgia...but all whilte, not one black face.

We need to get everyone together and get to know each other. That is the only way you can kill off stereotyping.

It's because, quite honestly, many blacks, whites, too, in the rap and hip hop community do say it, and blacks are often portrayed in the negative thug role or as inner city kids trying to do the right thing, but with blacks of bad character trying to stop them from doing the right thing.

This unfair and generalizing reputation affects a lot of opinion, and it's not untrue that self criticism tends to be lacking in all peoples and members of religions. So the media often gets away with it.

Just as Muslims deal with stereotypes, so also do blacks. I don't know what the solution is, but I do know that you can't stop it by only protesting those that generalize, you need to regularly condemn those that misrepresent you.

I have read some of the answers, and some of them are warped. Yes, a lot of blacks use that. A lot of whites use it. My brothers use it. I say it. All of my family does. But I guess that's because we're ignorant, KKK worshipping Alabamians, right??

Notice the sarcasm, people. That word is used by choice. For a long time, I never said it. But when I moved to my current hometown and see black people calling each other that, i guessed that it must be okay. Also, it usually IS the loud, obnoxious ones that use it. So shoot us white folks for saying it. If you don't want to be called that, don't act like one. There are white ones and black ones.

They hear it in rap songs. And films.

Reality has nothing to do with it. Most people don't live in reality at all. More's the pity.

All the black people I know went to university and (really) talk with Oxford and Cambridge accents. When my son's best friend (who happens to be the son of a Nigerian judge) visits the USA all the girls crawl all over him.

HE wouldn't use such a word.

I am from Australia. We dont use .. as you say.. the "N" word. But the only time here in Australia i hear it used is when a black person is talking to another black person.

I Niger never comes into my vocab. I always use black.. white and so on.

I do hear comics use the word.. like ... Chris rock.. and most of the time he uses it to put down or make fun of his own race...

Go figure... ??

Human nature plain and simple. People see and hear it in our songs and the way many blacks greet each other. From that they make a generalization. When (we)blacks stop using the word and make it unacceptable for our entertainers to use it in song and speach the problem will solve itself.

I don't think that. I find that word very offensive and derogatory. With any race one bad apple can poison those around it but in general people make labels based on their personal experiences and if you aren't around folks in other ethnic backgrounds you go based of tv, books, radio, pictures and the like - sad but true.

I don't know. Personally I don't like it and think they need to loose it from everyone's vocabulary. And why do people think all white people are raciest? Just because I have light skin and blue eyes they call me cracker. I am mostly of Hispanic (but have other races) decent.
