The first time I read the bible, I still considered myself a Christian and was fully prepared to believe and understand everything I read. But even then, I found myself thinking "No way this could have happened," and "Wow... that's messed up," and "Why would God do this? it seems so... evil."

In a way, reading the bible that first time is one of the things that lead to me leaving Christianity and becoming an Agnostic.

So when Christians tell me to "read the bible again, but this time, keep your mind open" or whatever, what do they mean? Am I supposed to ignore it when my brain or my heart tells me something is wrong? Am I just supposed to believe everything I read blindly? What, exactly, do you mean by this? Really, I'm not trying to bash anyone, I really would like to know.

Christianity gets attacked more than any other issue on Yahoo! Answers. Why is that? Is it because non-believers feel threatened and are scared of the truth? No other religion is ridiculed such as this. I don't even think George Bush is attacked as often, but that is whole different question.

"According to David Barrett et al, editors of the "World Christian Encyclopedia: A comparative survey of churches and religions - AD 30 to 2200," there are 34,000 separate Christian groups in the world today. "Over half of them are independent churches that are not interested in linking with the big denominations.""

Are the other 33,999 cults no better than atheists or agnostics?

What if you are wrong and one of the others is correct?

Does that mean you are going to hell?

Jesus told us not to use an eye for an eye anymore. See the bible quote at the end.

Yet I have the impression that especially the right wing Christians in America are the ones that say that we should fight back and get even with someone who does us harm. Think about the reaction to 9/11. As a real Christian President, should I attack the countries that are a threat to us, or should we turn the other cheak?

==============
Jesus told us:
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:38-42, NIV)

If there was another dominate religion or belief ( such as an atheist belief, etc.) in America, trying to " take over your government" and trying to "spread the word" WOULD YOU BASH IT?
If not, then why mess with Christianty. If you rather mess with Christianty than the dominate religion that was " taking over your government" then please stop and take a look at youself.

To parahprase, Ecc. says that every man sins.
It is said that the only way to earn atonement for these sins is through sacrifice. It is said that today we have no sacrifices, so the only way to earn atonement is through the sacrifice of Jesus.
Now 1 kings 8:46-50 (to paraphrase) says that every man sins and there will be a time when they will be far away (and unable to bring sacrifices to earn atonement), and that in this circumstance if they pray & repent G-d will forgive them.
Both Kings and Ecclesiastes use almost the same exact phrase and are stated by the same author (as Solomon said this spech in Kings, and Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes). Kings is expanding on Ecclesiastes, and describes the exact circumstance that we find ourselves in today (sacrificeless). Kings offers the solution to the problem of sin w/o sacrifice - prayer and repentance.
Why draw another conclusion (the need for Jesus) from Solomon's statement in Ecc., when he himself clarifies his intent in Kings?

Of course, most of the ones in the community faulted the police(I'm sure I don't have to tell you why).Who knows if the shooting was justified. As sad as this was,did anyone bother to ask why a 14 year old was walking around with a BB gun in the middle of the night in the first place?

If you do know the teachings of Jesus (since many of you proclaim to), can you please tell me what about them is wrong to you, if any?? Is your problem mainly with those Christians who don't follow His commandments, with His commandments all together, or is it because you just dismiss anything pertaining to God since you supposedly have “proof” that He doesn’t exist?

I'm really curious. I guess I just don't understand how anyone, even someone who is against gay rights or thinks gayness is a sin, can make that connection. Yet I've heard that a LOT.

NO, not perfect peace and security but a degree of it until the day 911 took it away real fast and no one knows how to fix it right since that one day and time, and more so in the USA. Does any one really feel safe now, for real? Has any security system mankind has come up with shown up to be really secure? Can anyone really stop the bad guy from doing his bad deed if he so wills to find away to get it done?
And if our enemy has us believing he is not real he can fool us so fast we will not even know we have been fooled by that con man. If that con man is a liar and killer are any of us safe with that enemy around? If con men are in ALL human governments, and about ALL religion, as well as business, where can we go to be safe? And know also even a good religion will have imperfect people in it no matter how good they work at being good before God and men. But is history on the side of anyone religion if we have an open mind to see facts and not let uneducated feelings get in our way?

I asked the vicar this, aged 10, pointing out that if the raw materials were there already, then they must have been made by someone else, and if they were not, then 'just where did he get all the stuff? And if they were then God didn't make everything, did he? There must have been several gods at it and, if so, how many? and where did they get the stuff from - and who made him - or them?

I was in Kroger yesterday and I walked up to the self-checkouts behind a lady and another lady (that I didn't see previously) hollered and said "Excuse me, but I was in line before you", I apologized and told her I didn't see her and then two registers opened up and she promptly jumped in front of the lady in front of me that was next and I said loud enough for the hag to hear me " I guess she couldn't figure out what register she wanted."

I know the hag heard me!
