That's not a easy question for you to get a general answer to.
contrary to popular American opinion, BLACK PEOPLE do not think or act in a vaccum.
Personally no one speaks for me. My answer is that I am appalled by the lyrics and videos but do like the melodies because they are samplings of great songs of yesteryear. Look here, Marvin Gaye (who is still played on top 40 radio every day)sang of joy, pain, disappointment and life in the ghetto and profanity was never used. No female was called ***** and whore. Stevie Wonder sang continuosly about our plight and again no profanities.
To those people that claim that there are only reflecting in their music what is happening in their 'hoods' need to step back and realize that they have created their 'hoods' and all the have managed to do is to step up "AMOS AND ANDY", "STEPPIN' FETCHIT" into the 21st centuries.
What annoys me most, is that we are falling all over our faces because Mel Gibson uttered supposedly anti-semetic remarks and here we are give lip service to the **** that is Rap Music.
I have recently heard 2 beautiful hip-hop renditions by Natalie Cole and Lionel Richie (cd's to be released in September) and they are beautiful. The music is in tact, and yes they are not singing about life in the ghetto but those renditions are not being made anymore anyway. It is only about bitches, whores, gold teeth, bling and all the other BS. I can only hope that a few years down the line, these artists after having made millions are not facing the plight of Mike Tyson, MC Hammer and even a blast from the past; Sammy Davis, Jr. who died penniless.
You can only drive one car at a time, and you can only live in so many rooms at a time. Good investments and real friends is the key.
That is my opinion and "I am unanimous in that".

I don't really like the things that rappers rap about. (bitches and hoes and money) What I have a real problem is that many rappers talk about how they are not sell outs. Yet, with all their music (some of which is mindless) and clothing lines and just by anything else they are endorsing is taking away from the black community.

Unfortunately the majority of black people live in the ghetto and strive their hardest to build an infamous image for a society that doesn't truly care about them... so they like it.. The ones that make an attempt to get an education and live up to their potential no doubt see it as the travesty that it is...

Well I don't mind it. I guess because the ones from the ghetto are more likely to express themselves through song and lyric than the rich ones. I guess the rich ones could care less about people knowing the hardships or whatever they have been through shoot their rich.

That's not true,Beyonce's song check on it wasn't about her being raised in a ghetto or any of her songs, not every Black person was raised in the ghetto. But if that's where they were raised that's ok with me becasue their music will be alot deeper and everyone will be able to relate, don't judge people.

I don't mind it if that is really where they are from, but when they are faking to get money its upsetting because they feel like they have to perpetuate a stereotype in order to be successful and that's bull ****.
