If the facts are as simple as you present, the police were justified and the community ought to be grateful. But I always wonder about what I don't know...

i agree with jenniferaboston. The parents are to blame for not protecting their children and giving them limits. These are the parents whose kids join gangs, do drugs, get pregnant, party all night, do porn, do prostitution, robbery/burgulary, etc.
Eventually the kid gets killed stupidly, end up in jail/probation, or rehab. I don't know the details of this story so I'm not going to say whose at fault here for the shooting.
But I will say the parents are to blame for having a 14 year old kid carry a BB gun in the middle of the night!!!

that's what the parents get for allowing any type of gun in the house in the FIRST place. toy or not.
PARENTS FAULT for not doing their job as parents and not protecting their kid.
what was the kid doing outside in the middle of the night?
why have a gun?
why have a gun out side in the middle of the night?
isn't there a curfew?

AWESEOME QUESTION. THE POLICE ARE NOT THE ENEMY HERE. THEY ARE HUMANS JUST LIKE YOU & I. THEY HAVE CHILDREN AND FAMLIES TO GO HOME TO WHEN THERE SHIFT'S ARE OVER. IF THEY SEEN SOMEONE WITH A GUN, AND SAY HE POINTED IT AT THE COPS OR SOMETHING, THEY HAD EVERY RIGHT TO SHOOT. NO ONE CAN DISTGUINSH WHAT TYPE OF GUN SOMEONE HAS FROM A DISTANCE AND NOT TO MENTION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.

The 14 yr old pointed it at the officer.Of course he deserved to be shot.I am so sick of people protesting stupid things, instead of asking the obvious. When are the gang bangers, and their families going to take the responsibility of ruining their communities?

People shouldn't point toy guns at people with real ones.
I agree with you. Are the words "parental" and "supervision" now an oxymoron?

i live in Chicago and this monkey punk kid got what he deserved. point a gun (real or toy) at a cop at 2am and you should be taken out.
he would have ended up in prison one day so lets alleviate the prison overcrowding problem by taking out the scum.
it's never the nigs fault they are all high school drop out losers........it's always whitey!

The kid is absolutely to blame. Cops don't know it's a stupid kid, they see someone with a gun, they protect their own lives.
