Islam and Judiasm both have dietary laws that dictate what is and is not allowed to be eaten. I want to know what sources they have in common. Did Halal arise from cross-pollination from the Old Testement Kashrut, or is it a totally separate system?

My boyfriend is Catholic and I am not any religion and was not ever christened. If we get married he said that I will need to be christened. What does this mean for me? I used to go to Sunday school when I was little in a methodist church. I don't really understand whether this was a christian church and what the difference is between the christian faith is and Catholic, or if there is any difference at all? Can someone shed some light on the subject for me?

See.....My father was in the Air Force and he got divorced with my mom when i was two.................now i have to find him so that for one.........I can go live with him and get out of the Foster child thing! and for two so that i can get to know him! I really just want to meet him......................I won't ask for ANYTHING else.......................I just want to get to know him....................So how do i go about locating him.......................I already called the Grand Forks AFB and they said that they'll call back with any info.........................but what else can i do to try and find him?

I have notice several people in my office gossip? Most of whom, at some point or another, say how much they dislike gossip. But they do it all the time. And sorry ladies, but it's mostly women. Why? Is it an addiction? An incurable disease?

The ancients supplied all kinds of great myths to big questions they had no answers for. Are we not doing the same thing today? Insisting that "Intelligent Design" satisfies all the questions about the Universe - isn't that just a way of not admitting ignorance? We do not know how and why we were created, but "Intelligent Design" saves us the embarrassment of admitting it.

We are different from the ancients and their myths in that we have a bit more scientific acumen, but we choose to respond in an ignorant fashion and say god created it, so we don't need to know anything more. Who agrees?

Personally I believe ATHEISM has no spiritual foundation and is quite frankly pathetic. To not believe in God when you see the wonders around you is nonsense. ATHEISM leads to anarchy and a sense of lost identity. When you have nothing to die for, what is the point of life?

I live in the Midwest in a predominantly white community, and am white myself. I am wondering if racism is really as bad as what is shown in the media. I truly do not mean to sound ignorant and I hope that I do not come across that way. What do you feel would help to change this? Do you think that talk shows, especially Maury, feed in to the African-American stereotypes? I cannot see why America is so stubborn and hard-headed as to keep racism alive in this country. .

im not a believer but id like to know why god could not obey his own laws. it says thou shall not covet thy neighbors wife and mary was josephs wife. and why is it that he can cause mass death and get off without blame when if a person kills hes condemmned?

I have a teenage brother and his room is a big mess. He is so lazy that he sleeps on the floor with the dogs! I don't want to shout to make him clean up his room. He is not embarassed that other people see it and doesn't give a damn. Not only is his room dirty, he takes his garbage to the kithchen, living room, bathroom and every room in the house except mine. This is giving me headaches!
