I have a teenage brother and his room is a big mess. He is so lazy that he sleeps on the floor with the dogs! I don't want to shout to make him clean up his room. He is not embarassed that other people see it and doesn't give a damn. Not only is his room dirty, he takes his garbage to the kithchen, living room, bathroom and every room in the house except mine. This is giving me headaches!

This isn't the most pleasant answer but it may work. How about if one day when he's gone you clean his room up for him. I mean do a really jam up job. Make sure you don't throw any of his stuff away! You can put the things that you think are trash in a bag but don't throw them away. Then organize everything for him. Vacuum, dust, etc. Then when he gets home tell him that you wanted to do something nice for him. Don't say something like, "Now keep it this way!" or " What do you think?" or "I bet it won't stay clean for long!" Just smile and give him a hug if you can. Then say a little prayer that he will enjoy his room being clean so much that he'll make a bigger effort to keep it that way. About the trash. It isn't very nice that he isn't taking yours out, but set the good example and you be the bigger person and do what's right by him.

Unfortunately shouting and fussing would only waste your time and give you more frustration.

If you live at home with your parents then you need to ask them to intervene, perhaps you could ask them to buy a garbage can to put his stuff in from the rest of the house, and just close the door to his room.

If you are an adult in-charge of your teenage brother then he can be informed that anything he leaves around the house will be donated to the local garbage dump (and not replaced). As for his room, close the door and fumigate when he moves out.

Are you his guardian? If you are not his guardian - is he living with you? Then make your rules and enforce them. While you are at it - give him some chores. Don't let him be with his dogs, video games, go out, watch tv or anything unless his room is clean!

As an aside - many people sleep with their dogs. Unless the dogs are very dirty - you really can't say much there.

If you are not responsible for him their is not much you can do if those that are responsible won't clamp down on him. Can you get his parents to enforce anything? Will they let you order him?

Can you threaten to have him sent to military school? It probably would be a good thing if he went. They'd straighten his act out. How about a military school for the summer?

Inform him about the many pestilences like cockroaches, rats, spiders and all the deadly diseases that come with being filthy.do some research. If he sleeps on the floor with the dogs remind him of tics, fleas, lice, and the dizzying array of other vermin that are just waiting to dine on him. If he gets lice all his hair WILL come off. then tell him if YOU get victimized by any plague he starts in your home you will stomp a mud hole in his a z z !!!!!!!!!!! There are many many things that can happen still to this day such as black plague due to filth. Just ask 3/4 of the population of 14th century Europe and England about it. AWWWWWWWWW but you can't CAUSE THEY DIED A HORRIBLE DEATH. oh well.

Threaten to clean it for him. He won't want you to find his Playboys and pot and condoms. Plus, he won't want you to throw all his **** away.

If that backfires, just start locking the fridge, not letting the dogs sleep with him, and then give him a cold soda that you've actually let sit in his room for a month. I don't know. You'll just have to FORCE him to do it. Watch him clean his room. Maybe HELP him clean it once and show him good hygiene habits.

take it up with your parents. it's their job to straighten him out.

if they don't help, I would tell them how you feel and that if they don't do something you will, because it's your home too.

I would throw everything in his room away and spray it down while he's not home one day.
