in march there was a horific traffic accident right outside my house, my husband and I were the one of the first on the scene, there was a car in the ditch on the other side of the road and one in frount of us, and was on fire, the driver was stuck by the legs and his wife was in the back the baby had been thrown into the front, we got the woman out and put her straight into the recovery position, and someone else got the baby, we tried to fight the fire and suceeded enough to free the driver, with 40 seconds before the car went up completely, my problem is that although we saved the driver, he is in a wheelchair now ( don't know if we caused it by yanking him out) , the woman was left to long before we had time to give mouth to mouth and died, the scene was what can only be descibe as a war zone, has anyone else had to make this life and death choice and how did you deal with the feelings of guilt at not doing more to save a life, this is the only sadness in my life.

happiness is a relative term

for example i just bought a new car,i feel happy about it,but it is because i,me,have a new car.but if everyone have a new car, then the feeling of "i having a new car" will cease to exist, as it just becomes another ordinary thing,eg. i have a hat etc.
The term hedonic treadmill was coined in 1971 by Brickman and campbell in their essay, and i feel it well explains this situation.

We work hard to achieve something, but once we achieved it, it just become some mundane thing to us. eg.we work hard to buy a car, but once we get it, having it just cease to be an attraction to us and we will hope for ever higher goals.

True, this is exactly what had spurred our rapid advancement but it also generated various unnecessary byproducts such as the increasing stress level to cope with our ever increasing need

what do you feel about this?

I'm having a dilemma right now. Well I'm going to be living with someone for 6 mos. We're not friends and barely even know each other. The reason for this is that we're both on a very tight budget and decided to share a room together. But now there's this bed problem. The room has a queen sized bed and we were planning to put another single bed inside the room. The owner doesn't want to replace it with two separate beds so we decided to put another bed (my roomie doesn't want a mattress alone so it's gotta be an entire single bed). Right now I can see that it's gonna take up too much space inside the room. So you can just imagine. Can someone pls enlighten me on this? Thanks! We're both female btw.

can anybody help me find two good words i could use?

So ... imagine there are two people: Person A and Person B. Person A says, "That person is pushy." Person B says, "Oh, he's not pushy ... he's just assertive." Person A sees someone else and says, "That person is greedy." Person B looks over and says, "You mean that person who is ambitious?" Get the idea? Person A has a negative interpretation of a person, whereas Person B puts it in a more positive light. Wouldn't you rather be called assertive as opposed to pushy?

For this post, I would like you to be both Person A and Person B. First, you need to come up with a negative characteristic, and then you need to come up with the positive version of the same characteristic. Finally, you need to explain the different impact each word would have.

Ok i know the question sounds funny. But could it be that in people's early-mid 20s they might not know what to do with their life? That they're still trying to figure out who they are, what they're into and their values?
Is that why ppl travel before they have a full-time job? So that they can explore the world first and figure stuff out? Any tips on how to handle a quarter-life crisis?
Or do you think someone just made up the concept so that ppl have one more thing to complain about?

I am the first to admit that I am the kind of person who takes everything to heart, and divides life into experiences of rejection and acceptance of myself.
How could it be any different?
And recently, I read that very description in a context which leads me to assume this to be a sign of bad character.
Why would this be bad?
I don't get it. Wouldn't the world be a great place if everyone was like that?

Am I a terrible person for being inquisitive and curious about everything?

Especially when a lot of it has NOTHING to do with me? I've been told I'm naturally deep and even if I say on here "Question has nothing to do with me" people say "you sicko, you weirdo, you ask these many questions you belong in the looney bin!"

So is it wrong to be curious and want to find quick info on topics you want to know about?

Is curiosity a mental illness?
