Does it do any good to be told how to live? and it does it do any good to tell yourself how to live?

Do you have to learn it yourself, through ordeal.

I recently went on a diet, and decided it'd be best to not drink, and now I crave it!!!! Am I an alcoholic? My dad is an alcoholic, but he drinks every single day. I only drink on weekend nights. Should I be concerned? I got depressed when I couldn't drink.

Did you feel like you didn't really feel valid without approval from someone else? And, have you found a way to accept your self without needing others? What lead you to realize who you are, and that you had intrinsic self-worth?

Recently, I had a job offer that was more money (25% + more)and promotion. Because of greed of getting more money than the original offer, I held back. Because of my mistake, the deal fell through and the employer hired someone else. This has been really bothering me. It has been nearly two months now and I can't get past this. I cannot even focus on my current job and my family. I don't know what to do. I feel like I missed out and it's bothering me beyond words. I have never felt like this before. Call it crazy, but I sometimes even get to tears. Help! How can I overcome this? How would you rank this in terms of a regretful life event? Thank you for your help.

i've been with my girlfriend for about 1 year. i just have this problem. she has a kind of "wall". she doesn't trust people even though she has known them her entire life. she even doesn't tell me things sometimes. i try to be compleatly understanding with this and i'm really patient. she really wants to "break down her wall" and wants me to help. i don't really know exactly how to do that. how can i do that?

I'm a sweet, caring sensitive woman with a sense of humor and a lot of you (admittedly) are clueless, so why would your opinion mean so much to me. Go save The Sudan already.

Here is the back ground for the question. I need to learn to trust my teammates and there abilities more. Even if I have not worked with them before, I need to give them a chance to show me that they are well capable of producing quality work, and only when they show me otherwise should I consider them unreliable. So i am try to find a saying that sounds like dont jump before you leap, but something that relates more to my example

In response to questions, lots of people post answers which are actually more an opinion than a real answer.

Here is a hypothetical Yahoo Answers question:
How do I get rid of warts?

Hypothetical Yahoo Answers answer:
Tie a string around the wart, turn yourself around three times, close your eyes and toss the string so you never find it. The next day your wart will be gone.

Common sense, grains of salt, and annoying celebrity questions aside, is Yahoo Answers one of your usual sources for knowledge?

Hi!

I'm 29 years old, graduated in the area of medical engineering but still find it hard to study and actually learn new things.

For example right now I have a great book on MRI- but the information seems to come in and come out at about the same rate. It just goes right through my head and doesn't stick.

I must admit I'm not always interested in everything I have to learn. I tend to like and enjoy knowledge when I actually have it.

I'm not sure what the best way to learn is. It's so much easier to be on constant breaks with a coffee in one hand. Things are also very hard to understand- complicated formulas and stuf: sometimes I can spend ages on the same page. This also doesn't help and just makes me fall to sleep when reading. :)

What are techniques of learning more effectively so things stay in the head?

The child is 9 and has autism and mild CP and is oh so disruptive...LOUD screaming and animal noises all day except during sleeping hours, and is beginning to seriously hurt her siblings...scratched her 11 y.o. brother on the cheek about 4 inches long and it has left a scar, also kicked her 2 1/2 y.o. sister hard in her chest last week...
She has been to docs for 7 years now and has tried 6 diff. meds (none help, even antipsychotics) and attends special school all day year round...there appears to be nowhere else to turn and no answers left...no one knows what to do and as heartbreaking as it will be the family can't stand the chaotic disruptions anymore, it's so emotionally and physically draining...Has anyone went through this and literally given up and thought maybe the child would be better somewhere else? She will never even be potty trained and the family can't see themselves living with this 20 years from now, even as much as has been invested in her, moneywise and emotionally
