Few of us get real second chances in life. But occassionally we do get a second chance and unfortunately too many people blow the second chance.

I have lived a long time......65 years.......and the preachers of the world don't like me at all because I believe in my heart people do not change. I have given so many second chances and in every case got hurt. I have finally adopted the position "don't expect anything and you are not disappointed".

I might add that forgiveness and giving a second chance are not the same thing. We should forgive everyone and not harbor any hatred or ill will. But that does not mean we have to set ourselves up for more hurt and heartbreak.

You setting yourself up for heartbreak. The person needs to change first before getting a second chance and changing enough normally takes much time.

It's different for every couple. Sometimes it takes a while (including a break up) before the couple is ready to make a commitment. On the other hand, there amy be some issue that keeps coming up that the other person can't live with - and I have known some very decent people who just could not make it as a couple. (If the issue involves abuse or violence, stay away.)

You may have to date the person for a while to discover whether you both are compatable or not - that's partly what dating is for.

Yes I think they do deserve a second chance, BUT you have to talk and set out clearer guidelines since they were obviously crossed the first time.

I would say everyone makes mistakes, and everyone deserves a second chance, but definitely not a third. If it happens the third time, they will definitely not change. Good Luck

They change if you address the behaviour and correct what caused it in the first place. If not, they won't change.
