You're what they call a weekend binger. Yes, you can be alcoholic only drinking on weekends. If you get depressed by not being able to drink is a good sign. Luck to you.

Hang in there! How long has it been that you have stopped? It is possible to be a weekend alcoholic, but stopping anything would result in cravings for it. When you have been away from it for several months, the cravings should subside, even after four to six weeks. Part of it is a habit, part of it is a crutch. You have to develop other ways of managing your feelings or whatever you were trying to cover up with the alcohol. Exercise can be very helpful and important. It can be used to replace what you used the alcohol for, like unwinding. Find something like that, because it is healthier and better than replacing drinking with eating or smoking or another bad habit.

That's the way I started and became an habitual drunk on weekends, but broke it up before I started looking for the brass ring on the sot-go-round. I don't drink everyday either, but both parents and grandparents were McDrunks summa come loud alkies. Some went to jail, some didn't and there's my limit, if I end up before a judge, more than likely I should attend AA meetings. I do consider myself on the way to becoming a "problem drinker" as I never turn down a free one, but I still don't drink because of depression or to forget and never within 8 hours before a shift or driving, but alcohol does carry a 9 pound sledge and you never know when you are going to wake up in an alley in this day and age.
Important questions to ponder in privacy include do you drink alone as well as socially? Do you lie about your drinking to fam and friends or even yourself? Ever write an overdraft in a bar ot to a liquour store? Do you gamble or use drugs as well? Are you considered a regular at a neighborhood tavern? Yes to one, everyone may have once, yes to two, risky business and three or more, talk to someone at an AA meeting.

Hi sweetheart,
You are NOT an alcoholic if you were only drinking on the weekends! Maybe you crave it now because it was a release for you on the weekends, a way to unwind. A little drink on the weekends won't hurt your diet, don't be so hard on yourself. But I can tell you, you are NOT an alcoholic. Depression was maybe due to change in diet and biorhythms or simply change in routine.

Sounds like you are on the same path as daddy. He might have started out just having 'a few', but wound up a full-blown alcoholic. I would try to find help, e.g., AA, counseling, church, a friend to talk to... you're on the right track... I was an alcoholic and drug addict, but i gave it up... I now read the Bible and pray daily and attend church. I haven't drank or did drugs in over 20 years. You sound like a young person. You have a good future ahead of you.

You might still be in time not to become an alcoholic.
I'm told alcohol is one of the hardest addictions to break so even if you are depressed and miss it it is nothing compared to a full fledged detox in an institution. Don't touch it until you become normal or better still never again.
Life is too short to live dependent on anything other than food and air.

It's called binge drinking and it could be more dangerous than just being an alcoholic. But yes, if you crave it, you are addicted and would be considered an alcoholic. And I would be concerned. You could die. Or you could progress to drinking everyday. Binge drinking is hardest on your liver. It could really mess it up.,
