We have been best friends for 8 yrs. Through the years, my friend always like to pick fights with me and I was always the one piecing back together our friendship. And whenever she fights with me.. she ignores me. Our senior year, she decided to ignore me out of the blue. I asked her what was up but she refused to tell me. 2 months went by of ignoring, then one night us and some of our friends went out to a movie. The whole time she was acting like everything was ok between us. I didn't ask what was up with it, I just let it roll. She was paying close attention to me though. The next day at school I wondered if she would talk to me.. she didn't. She went back to ignoring me. I asked what was up and how it made me feel. She said that she was still here for me, misses me and loves me.. but she couldn't explain it to me then. I asked why and she said because there is a time and place for everything. She said to "let me come to you."

What do you think of those educational sources stating men are more likely than women to be the victims of dating violence?

http://www.csulb.edu/~mfiebert/assault.htm
http://www.unh.edu/news/cj_nr/2006/may/em_060519male.cfm?type=n

Personally, from my own anecdotal evidence, I found it to be true, although my anecdotal evidence was an extremely small sample. (It happened to a friend of mine.)

What do you think about it?

I hate to do this, but I can't find on here where to ask this, and I can't find the answer. Again, I apologize, but I need to know. I know this is not G&WS related, but it seems from prior comments that there's some English Majors on here:

Which contraction is appropriate:
1) You're not
2) You aren't... or
3) both 1 and 2 are okay
4) You'ren't

No opinions please. I know what people use, but wondering if proper English has a specific rule? Looking for teachers or English majors.

My neighbor just now filed for divorce after being abused by her husband for 9 years! Why do women stay with their abusive husbands? If my partner ever seriously abused me, and continued to do so, I'd be filing for divorce as soon as possible.

Is it have to do with a feeling of insecurity if they left? A feeling of embarrassment and shame for themselves having to move back with their parents for a while? What? I just don't understand the logic?

is even a fraction as high as the incidence of men *encouraging* and attempting to influence their girlfriend to HAVE an abortion that she doesn't necessarily want?

I have never, in my own experience, known a man who desperately wanted his partner to have the baby she was determined to abort. I have never known a man to want to "veto" his girlfriend's abortion. I HAVE known cases in which boyfriends attempted to persuade their partner to have an abortion when she didn't want one. Do you think men desperately wanting their baby are even half as common as men trying to influence their partner to have an abortion against her will? From the looks on this forum of the mass male indignation over not being able to control those murderous irresponsible women's bodies, you'd think men were so angelic that they would never ask a woman to abort their baby. In fact, I'm almost certain that they do so MORE often than they request to keep their babies.

I had just e-mailed an Answers user to show her how to allow contacts, because she didn't realize that she wasn't allowing contacts to add her, and asked me to explain how to change this. The very next day she sent the following, "I am adusting my profile and info as requested by the man I love. He worries for me and I love him to much to even care to argue his points." Of course now even her profile name has changed to "...", and she is no longer allowed to accept e-mails, contacts, nor IM's. I would never have such a lack of love and respect for my girlfriend as to dictate to her how she can use her time online(and if she accepted such behavior from me, I'd no longer be with her, because I'd no longer respect her). Why do women stay with losers like this? What is the driving force that causes a woman to have such low self-respect that they'd stay in such an unhealthy relationship? It's pretty sad, in my opinion.

Your thoughts?

Should the recipient of child support money provide the other parent with receipts or even a general accounting (not a "to the penny" accounting), including what was spent from their own resources?

Keep in mind that most states mandate each party have access to the other's income information, so privacy is not an argument.

I often see many posters make the statement that men and women cannot be equal "because we are different."
Obviously we're different.
But, if we cannot be equal for this reason, then how can ANYONE be "equal"? We are ALL different, with different strengths, talents, and weaknesses.
So, is equality a complete fallacy, or is there another meaning besides the mathematical definition of "sameness"?
What about "social equality"? Does it, or should it exist?

we all started using the word WOMANKIND to describe humans INSTEAD of MANKIND?

and

we started using words like HER and SHE to describe PEOPLE, and HE and HIM to describe BOATS and CARS? and we only use the word MAN to describe adult males, but mainly use the word BOY?

and

we start saying things like, "SISTERHOOD OF WOMAN", and stop saying "BROTHERHOOD OF MAN"?

and

we REPLACE the word MAN with WOMAN each and every time it is used if the U.S. Constitution, unless it is specifically referring to males.

and

we start blessing the Mother, Daughter, and Holy Sprit?

Would ya'll mind any?

other than fighting with women and making our lives difficult?

Article sub-title: "There is a growing worldwide trend for women-only spaces on trains, beaches and in hotels. But do they make women any safer?"

Article quote: "A recent report that showed that two out of every three subway riders in New York has been sexually harassed (the survey was of a mixed group, with almost 70% of respondents being women). In Tokyo, the problem is just as bad - 64% of women in their 20s and 30s reported being groped on the train or in transit stations. In fact, the problem is so well recognised in Japan, that there's even a specific name for subway harassment: chikan. And the city's answer to such large-scale harassment? Establishing a woman-only train carriage aimed at protecting potential victims.

Japan isn't the only country where a separate space has been set aside for women's safety. There are women-only train carriages in Rio de Janeiro, Moscow and Cairo. Italy has just established a women-only beach.

Is segregation the only answer?

The above link holds studies indicating that ovulating women in long term relationships have a preference for dominant males.

"This preference was not shown by women at other points in their cycle. What's more, the effect was only significant for women in long-term relationships"

Ok, ovulating I get because of hormonal influences, but why would a woman's relationship status affect her preference?

Side note: Interesting how this study seems to show that single non-ovulating women (ovulation taking up only aprox 3 days out of every 28 day cycle) are indifferent to dominance.

how smug and condescending is this?????

Feminist will never say I am disempowered and I have no equality - they always speak about feminism being for some illusive sisterhood out there

like they the speaker are big and great and strong and the women feminism is helping are puny and weak and small.

uber female needs no man Rio Madeira is by far the very worst perpetrator of this smug beltittling attitude towards other women.

Hilarious that they should be victims of misuse of a law that has already caused the indian society to break up.

If you are an indian and now settled in the west shouldnt one marry a woman from that society?

If you have chosen to live in a different society and become a national of a different nation should one embrace it???
