Social Science - 1 November 2007

Why does this generation of teenagers think that they should have sex at 13 or 14? Why do they think that they're won't be possible consequences to having sex? No wonder HPV is such a huge thing now. No wonder there are so many teen pregnancies where a 13 year old already needs to have an abortion? I just don't understand. If you're young, enjoy being young! You'll grow up soon enough and realize a lot of choices you made were foolish.

Why are these things happening so frequently? Is it the media? Movies? Television? Music? The clothing industry? Their parents? I'm so confused. Anyone have any ideas?

after you get out?"are you going to work"?I get that alot because i go there at odd hours 9-11.I get pissed off because people know i'm a musician,but i have to tell them i'm a freelance web designer as well.Why do i always feel the need to validate myself?My brother says that not to worry about it and that they were just making conversation.He said i should leave everything that happens at the gym behind anfd not even think about it.People have been so on again and off again with me,that i don't know how to respond.Could it be that i'm making a bigass deal out of nothing?

Do you ever feel this way and why? Why is sex so bad? Why are people made to feel ashamed about it....or deem it as "unappropriate" more than most others things in life? It still holds a bit of a taboo-ness about it.......even today.

Also, why do women feel TAKEN from or USED when a guy has sex with them? Shouldn't they feel desired...in a way? Why is it that women experience the "used" feeling, when most guys ...do not? Is it because...being the "catcher" or on the "receiving" end (physicality of actual sex) that you feel more taken from...because physically you weren't really giving...just receiving it...hence feeling "used"? (hope that makes sense)
Or is it all biological?

I've had this discussion with men and women and it always ends without real answers. No one knows. It's a strange thing. Thanks for your input though!

I think most people know that the only thing backing the dollar is basically nothing other than the paper it's on. Is there some kind of belief system in place that keeps people from "making a run at the bank" and cashing out? What keeps the dollar valuable, mind control, perhaps?

Banning together as the Human race!!! Why cant we get along. Let people be. I guess its because there are always gonna be Bullies and Trouble makers. But we all share a common Bond. What does everyone here think of the trend of giving boys' names to girls? Many of the most popular names now - Makenzie, Madison, Dylan, Riley, Bailey, and others either were once only given to boys or have a distinctly "male" feeling to them. (And yes, all of these names are on the top 100 in the US right now.)

What is the resoning behind this? Is it cute, is it sex appeal, or do parents simply prefer unusual names? Madison is currently #3 for baby girls, so there clearly is a lot of appeal there.

What do you think about this from a feminist perspective?

I for one have never found the theory to evolution to conflict with the belief in a higher power. I believe that God could have easily made man and woman, just as it says in the Bible, or that story in the Bible could be a symbolic tale of creation that took a million years to complete. My question is, for those who use evolution as a basis to disprove the existence of God. If there was no highwer power in control of the evolution process, why would human evolve something as counterproductive as a conscience, it as a whole holds us back, and keeps us from surviving in some instances. All animals evolve in ways that beter there existance. I can't think of an evolutionary trait that hinders a animal like a conscince does a human. Don't get me wrong, I am glad we have this hiderance, but it is funny that if we were are just animals existing why did we develop this trait.

i had 3 seperate dreams about sharks

night 1: me and some friend were at the beach and a shark came out of no where but didnt do anything just swim around my friend while i watched

night 2: we were at the beach boogie boarding and some random guy got attacked by a shark

night 3: i was hanging out on the beach and saw some sharks swimming around and the came out of the water and had legs walking towards me

i'm confused
i grew up in Huntington Beach, CA (wish i could go back)

Ok, what do you think it means... psychologically... Background: I live some distance away from my parents, and I have always hated my dad.

I saw both my mother and my father standing there in a mirror. I saw my dad with a rifle (in fact, it was my own rifle) -- for some reason, I could not see myself in the mirror... I saw my dad standing at an angle from the mirror further back, and my mom directly in front of the mirror.

My dad aims at the mirror and fires a shot into the glass (not directly at my mother) but at the spot in the mirror where my mom was (in the mirror)...

The bullet goes through the mirror, and the glass shatters -- however at the same time, the "real" figure of my mom -- the one causing the reflection also fell -- bleeding to the ground...

I woke up so damn distraught... that was just so disturbing...

Part of my dream included finding a ring of keys on the ground. But these keys didnt have grooves in them, in fact they were flat rectangles of metal with words etched in them. I read each key. But when I woke up, I could not remember any of the words. Are keys literal, as in "the key to the puzzle", or do they have any other meaning?
