Why is it important for psychologists to know how the brain functions?

I'm having my nephew write me an essay on this so i thought i would throw this out here to see what all of you think the reason is.

This is not homework help this is why i posted this here, just more curious on the response it gets.

Thanks ")

I was in a gladiator arena, the roman colliseum to be exact. Sand covered the ground. The seats were all empty. The some lionness appeared, they were hungry so they lunged at me. I dodged their claws and bites. Kept dodging them till they got tired. So four lionness are lying down on the floor breathing heavily, as I stood pretty confident a good distance away from them. Then suddenly I realize there was a fifth one behind me all this time. It bites me on the back of my neck. I hear a snap and I drop to the ground, unable to feel anything, limp and lifeless. Then I see the other lionness approaching. Then I wake up, not sure if it was a nightmare, I wasn't scared or shaking but deeply disturbed by the dream.

This is a hypothetical exercise to see how sexually restrictive you find the world you live in. With the way you are now, what would be your ideal scenario or fantasy if all restrictions were taken off the way adults could conduct their sex lives with each other? Imagine a miracle world in which there could be no disease, no unhappiness, no unwanted pregnancies, no conventions or judgement, that whatever your sexual desires, fantasies, preferences or habits with other adults, they would be totally consequentless and there would always be willing people? Would you choose to conduct your sex life similar to the way you do now, would you choose monogamy, polygyny, polyandry, polyamory, free love sex, casual sex, celibacy etc? What sexual landscape would you create? Remember, there are no bad consequences.

I believe there are times when we need to forgive ourselves, understand that we will never be perfect, but still strive to be the best we can.

Rapid-cycling? Ultra-rapid cycling? Cycles that vary month by month?

Can the length and timing of a bipolar person's cycles change depending on their age and possible other issues (such as not taking meds, et cetera)?

According to the bibles, when Adam came to earth, he already know how to speak and knows the names of all animals. On the other hand, from the archaelogical findings, we know that human had gone through evolution to become what we are today.

The internet opens up the possibility of greater interaction between different people, cultures and sub-cultures. The anonymity of the internet also allows people to be more honest and explore areas of life without the fear of public disapproval. All of this means you can really learn a lot about other worlds, sometimes dark, and people, without the censor of a public façade. Given all of this, do you ever visit discussion forums in areas which would ordinarily be beyond your reach in the real world, out of prurient or academic interest? If you do, which ones?

I am going to be honest. I'm intelligent and well read for my age...for any age actually.

I can tell you about the fauna of the taiga, discuss Nietzsche and know something about every country in the world but...I dont know who I am.

I dont know what my opinions are as I keep agreeing with other people, I'm not assertive, I don't know how to make small talk and I don't know who I am. Everybody around me seems so confident and so outspoken but I feel like part of the furniture.

How can I be 21 and still not know who I am. It hurts.

It seems the government is doing everything they can do to help girls in maths and science, but not focusing on the real issue and letting boys fall further behind in everything else. We're blaming boys for them failing, shouldn't we be fixing the education system to help them? It's a fact that most girls in school are doing better in grades than boys. Now there are more girls than boys in college.. your views on this, what do you think should be done. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Thanks

I have been described as an indepdent, strong, indifferent and even heartless woman. I like to think I am all that, bar heartless.

But an incident today really hurt my feelings and in my downtrodden state, I suddenly realised humans are weak and vulnerable. We may argue that one gender is better than the other, but all the similarities we share as human beings seem so much more important than comparisons.

There is no better gender, only different genders. Everyone is the same, as human beings.

**You may say that such an outlook is only because I am in a rather pessimistic mode. But sometimes, only in pessimism can you see realism**

I am looking to try LSD for the first time soon. I know its very powerful and to have a clear mind before taking it. Problem is, i am hardly ever at ease, i do suffer from some depression and i am usually always stressed. So my mind is hardly ever clear. Is this going to be a problem? I also have not done any other hallucinogens. But my friends keep telling me about acid and have me all amped up to try it. So my question is, what do i need to know about LSD for my first time? and also, what are the odds of me having a bad trip?

The false empowerment of this age lowers standards to let women into fields that require physical strength & affirmative action gives women an automatic "leg up" over men.

Why can't natural ability be the deciding factor?

Why can't people hire based on experience/talent/education & actual merit?

(Let me guess, the evil patriarchy would never hire women & they'd be forced into secretarial jobs or prostitution. )

Women are outnumbering men on college campuses. This means there will be more qualified women than men entering the workforce.

...& yet women still get the slots left open for them over men.

How slanted does the field need to get before the insanity stops?

"Equal opportunity" ...Remember that noble idea?

I have this dream like once a year, or once in a while. I'm on my way somewhere, trying to get the appropriate clothes on and trying to find my keyes and other necessary items... I'm already late... I finally run outside and hop into my car... I back out of the driveway, shift into 'drive,' and start off...... and then I wake up... What does this mean?
