I have this dream like once a year, or once in a while. I'm on my way somewhere, trying to get the appropriate clothes on and trying to find my keyes and other necessary items... I'm already late... I finally run outside and hop into my car... I back out of the driveway, shift into 'drive,' and start off...... and then I wake up... What does this mean?

Hi PerfectlyBaked.....

Let's see......

I'm on my way somewhere,

((attempting to do something..... going somewhere, certainly .... ))

trying to get the appropriate clothes on

((clothes represent the outer portion of self shown to the world...... A sporty person would wear - sports clothes, a business man in a suit - etc.... But, it is not what is inside, it is what is outside... a "for show" kinda thing..... Here, the dream would indicate that you are trying to figure out how you want to present yourself to an outer "audience", if you will..... or rather... simply: how to present yourself to others.... ))

and trying to find my keyes and other necessary items...

((A "key" is symbolic of anything that affords you access to the things you need...... Even a simple thought can be a key to something.... Here, the dream implies that you do not have what you need to "access" the things needed......and in some dreams, "keys" indicate the necessity that identifies a problem and offers the solution - so it is with a "key".....))

I'm already late...

((something occurs after the expected, usual, or proper time........))

I finally run outside and hop into my car...

((Now that you can prolong your stay no longer, you are ready to get going somewhere......The car is symbolic of the body in motion......))

I back out of the driveway, shift into 'drive,' and start off......

((Doing something backwards here.. something that is in reverse of the direction you are headed...... But, whatever you are doing in life that offers this symbolic language's image, the dream indicates that you had to manipulate something in your life to get going...... yet.... you are late about it.......Late getting around to doing it........))

It's very clear. It is a warning/guidance dream telling you to becareful. Maybe you are always rushing in the mornings and then rushing to your car. Backing up the car on your way out needs very good care indeed. I think you have been holding back some guilt about rushing off in car without being careful and this is now being reflected in your dreams. You need to plan and organise your things so you are not late in the mornings and can take more care driving off. This will stop the dreams once you have took notice and taken more care. Only you can say what you are doing that is wrong.

They say that dreaming is a way to solve problems. It may be related to something that is unresolved in your life and you think that you still have some time to fix it. You wake up before you can get to that part of the dream that is trying to tell you what it is, because you have a reluctance to act on whatever unfinished business you are trying so desperately trying to avoid. Remembering what the issue is and acting on it either way will put the issue and your dreams to rest.

There is no one on this planet that can answer that question. My guess is that you have an insecurity about being late. Think of it this way, You, along with most everyone else, has been brain washed into thinking that if you are late for anything it's going to make a difference but in most cases it doesn't.
I'm not saying that punctuality is not important. All I'm saying is that as long as you don't make a habit out of it don't let yourself loose sleep over it.

My friend had something similar happen to her. She said she thinks it's because she was suppressing herself of her wants and working too much. She had the same dream for a few months.

She was so annoyed with this dream that she took a temporary break from one of her jobs (which ended up being permanent) and after she left, the dream stopped.

I only remember part of what she told me about her dream because it was a while back but she said she couldn't find her shoes or her clothes but she ended up getting in her car and heading to work anyway in her undies and bra. She drove there but before she entered her workplace, she woke up.

I think it's a sign of your mind stressing out. Maybe you need to relax in some part of your life, like she did.

It doesn't mean anything. It's just your brain sorting things out. You may have done the action in your dream or worried about doing it, though.
