Social Science - 1 November 2007

Now that women can go to college and expect to earn wages that are almost at parity with men who are similarly qualified, has the need to couple with "underachieving" men been eliminated? Now that a woman can make her own way in the world and no longer need rely on a poor provider to have anything at all?

OK,short and sweet.
I don't really believe in dream interpretation.
I am a Christian.
My friend had 2 dreams about me in one week. In one, I died from cancer and in the other I died after being hit by a car!!!!!!
He didn't want to tell me because he knows I have suffered hypochondria and panic attacks FOR YEARS but he thought he'd better tell me.
It's freaky to have 2 dreams in one week I think. Is it just coincidence? He is very stressed right now - just had a baby and is a successful business owner. However, he and I have been good friends/minor business associates for a long time and have had no troubles with either.
REASSURE ME THAT IT MEANS NOTHING PLEASE!!!!!!!!

in the dream, i was the only girl. there were 4 or 5 boys. i ran really fast. i never ran that fast before. sometimes i was the 1st, sometimes the 2nd. i kept trying to beat the boys. but before i woke up, i remember getting 3rd place. there was 2 boys in front of me who i cant seem to take over.

last night i had the weardest dream, it was long. this is how it starts (i was in a cave like place my brother was trying to put a snake inside a bucket and close it but the snake kept getting out, i was scared to get near, than i went outside and rode the train, the sky was gray and my friend was sitting next to me. When i got out i went down a little hill cover by trees and saw this green lake. This woman in a wetsuit jumped in, but then came back, then two more people and when i looked where they were going i saw a snow covered mountain with people skiying. i put just my feet inside the water and it was cold, then i looked around and deent see my friend) is it just weard stuff or does this long dream have a meaning?

two days before I stay there I dream about a cemetary behind the house, and when I just moved in, I found the fact that somebody had been murder in the house next door (mutilated) and a month later I found out another fact that another guy had been commited suicide (hung himself) I still dunno know which house he was lived. and a week ago somebody just died cause she got poisoned, by her husband.what a spooky community there isn't it??. It's still 7 mo's to go to rent another house.and last night I dreamt about the guy hung himself, he lived in the house I just rent now, it was in the bathroom.Do everybody know the meaning of my dream about ? I really scared to living there only with my son(2 y.o)...Sometimes I feel like there's an eye keep on watching me...what should I do??

Im 20, in college and an extremely extroverted, nice, friendly and healthy young woman. Sometimes it sort of bothers me, however, to think that I have NEVER been asked out by a guy. I've never been out on a date with anyone although I have tons of friends who love me(in a platonic way). I'm also very outgoing and people perceive me as a very happy and self-confident person. So what could be a reason for this? I also want to mention that I am very short and brown-toned. Although I don't think that my looks could be the main reason for it, as people in all different sizes and shapes still have somebody, sometimes I do ponder about my appearance.
I have no clue as to why no guy has ever found me attractive or nobody has ever showed any interest in me in a romantic way.
What could possibly be the reason? I feel absolutely clueless.
Would I end up as the single 50-year-old virgin when all my friends would have kids already in school?

No guys have actually expressed any kind of interest in me before no matter how friendly we were to each other, and most of the men I know here in college or anywhere these days are either homosexual or in a relationship. Some people get shocked when they hear that I never had a boyfriend (which sort of makes me feel a little awkward). A lot of my girl friends (who are straight) think I am a beautiful and jovial woman with a really attractive smile and the best personality. So sometimes I just think that "How come I never had anybody into me?"
Another thing is that most of the guys that I found attractive were never really into me at all. Thus, I didn't even bother to make the first move anytime.

i always wonder why anyone can't take me serious? my friends always make jokes on me... even infront of new people. and that gives wrong impression of me to the new person.. so the new person also doesnt think i can be serious...

for example: the only time they come to me is when they want something (like books, papers, and homeworks). but if they have someting fun to do (like party or go to the movies) they will never call me or ask me... they call some other friends who dont even do them any favor.. and this makes me feel that i am only not credible.

Its not because i can not defend my self.. but i think its because i dont expect noting inturn after doing them a favor. what do u think the reason is? what should i do to be credible withn my frinds and when meeting new people?

Once the bridge is built, the cost to cross it is zero. But to build it costs C. What toll will pay it off? What toll will maximize the net benefits of the bridge?

My math teacher in high school a couple years ago always told me that one day all the numbers would dissapear....i was clearly not ready for this :(

like an hour ago when i fell asleep..i was dreaming that i was at a reunion with a few friends all the sudden i just pull up my shirt and touch my stomach and i was pregnant !!!!! and like i saw 2 little hands pushing forward like the baby wanted to get out or something like that ..everyone was happy including me...i recently had a miscarriage a month ago and it was hard for me,and i think that why i was dreaming that because i lost it but i dont know could this dream mean something ?????

First of all, I'd like to ensure that I would never ever want to offend anybody by asking this ignorant question.
I'd like to know if it's true someone who chooses to become a lesbian or gay commits themselves to live homosexual life rather than heterosexual generally because they find it more difficult to be loved by the opposite sex than the same sex?
For example, superficially unattractive women get hurt by men in past and alternatively choose the same gender to be in love with instead of the opposite ones.
Does it sound plausible or controversial?

I hate my life. I hate my job. I have a million bills pileing up. I'm only 20 years old i live with my parents. I have so many regrets. So many that i cant deal with. Everything hurts. I cry everyday. I have had a few guys in my life do nothing but hurt me. People i trusted did nothing but hurt me. I just dont know how to deal with it anymore. Its effecting my life. I cant go to work sometimes. I stay in bed all day. I have a really hard time falling asleep. And when i do fall asleep i stay asleep for 10-15 hours. I just dont know what to do.

I'm seriously considering entering the Social work carreer field. The Idea of being able to help people in a more hands on manner than a therapist/pchycatrist, intruiges me. I have the desire to Improve peoples lives, and money/earnings are not a factor in my decision making process for what I want to do with my life.
If everything works out, I would like to specialize in Mental health and substance abuse, or Medical and public health. All of that being said, I've a lonnnnnng way to go I just began my core curriculum at a community college.
My question is......what are some jobs I can get to prepare me for the career field?

former military....heavy equipment operator(big carreer change, yes I know)
27 years old (you think this may be to old? considering I will eventually have to go for a masters?)
Again, just beginning my college career (late start! yes I know)
