That is awful instead of caring for the child's well being, which there clearly is some medical problem (if this is even true) she thinking only of herself. Which is strange because almost all of the answers weren't even judging her but were concerned for the child. She can't even conceive that a person would see a 13 year old wet their pants and think, "that kid needs to see a doctor" instead she thinks that when some one sees that they are thinking oh that awful mother.

Oh, let me put the smack down on her first! With an obvious inbred mother like that, that poor child doesn't have a chance. Doesn't she watch those commercials about late bladder control? She should take her to her doc to have her checked. My son wet his bed on occasion till he was nine. They didn't have those Good Nites then, but I would just tell him it's not a big deal and toss the laundry in the washer...case closed. I knew a neighbor a long time ago who would place her 12 year old's mattress on the front porch when it got wet for the whole world to see. I was pretty young then and did nothing. I wish I'd given that bit*h the smack down!!!!!!!

With the lack of compassion the parent seems to have, it wouldn't surprise me to learned that the girl was never even potty-trained as a toddler.
Sometimes, people (especially new parents) get so frustrated, overwhelmed, whathaveyou, that they simply avoid a subject, hoping that everything will work itself out.
You don't have to teach a human child to walk - they DO figure it out on their own. Potty-training is like with any other animal. It could be a medical issue, and is doubtless a psychological issue now...and will be for most of her life, even after the actual issue is resolved.
Often, people do stupid things due to a lack of concern or patience with an issue. Now, as this parent is facing the consequences, it is even harder and more frustrating than ever...which is the problem in SO many cases floating around the YA boards. People ran from one problem, and have to face it later after it's grown and mutated and they are still every bit as unprepared.
What is scary to me is that is an ALARMING lot of people in the world like this, and that many of them have power over other. Yikes.

She should take her for a complete medical check up , to see if her condition is a medical one.
If it is not medical , it may be a psychological problem. If it has been on going for 13 years, The mother did not mention what her relationship was with her Daughter at non-wetting times. If she ignored her and does not interact with her because of the bed wetting issue.
As many people have suggested that (positive reinforcement) Setting goal and once they are met reinforce Her for he positive progress.
If you ignore her and do not interact with her because of the wetting issue. If the only way she get her mothers attention is by wetting herself ,then that could be (negative reinforcement)
The mother may be causing the issue, based on her reaction to the wetting, She needs to get professional help for her daughter!

All I can say is that I would never put my kids through this.
As a mom of two girls,it really touched me knowing that this 13 years old is going through all that s*** she's dealing with.

besides a medical analysis, she may have psychological problem, as well. name calling wont fix it, though. the girl needs understanding and help and so does that parent. she may have been a victim of her own parents' naivete.
